Don't expect prompt meal service!!! The food that I caught sight of looked smashing but unfortunately my wife and I never got to actually eat anything! Let me explain. Earlier that day I had booked a reservation for 7pm that evening & upon arrival the manager took me into the adjoining restaurant of The Skelwith Bridge Hotel as The Talbot Bar had no seats left and apparently their kitchen serves both the pub and adjoining hotel. We ordered our meals promptly but by 5 past 8 our food hadn't arrived and neither had we been approached and given an apology or a reason for having to wait so long! I did notice that on two occasions when tables had been served meals it was by a person dressed in kitchen attire (maybe the chef) and so assumed they were short staffed as there was only one waitress in the entire restaurant who was obviously run off her feet doing her best to look after everyone. I asked a couple who had arrived before us how long they had been waiting and they said an hour and a half that night but yesterday they had waited a full 2 hours!! They said they had no choice but to have their meals there as were staying at the hotel, I assume by that they meant their booking had included the cost of evening meals. After hearing this we gave up waiting any longer and drove 2 miles up the road to another pub where our food literally arrived 10 mins after ordering. Bliss 😊 My final remark is addressed to the management of these adjoining establishments - Either employ more staff or reduce table numbers. If a pub up the road can serve food promptly to customers...

After myself and my partner waffles through some waterfall woodlands about three and a half miles down the road, we realised it was half seven and we needed some food. My good lady found this place on the maps, tried calling but unfortunately we no answer so we took a chance and made the few more drive. Got there, managed to be squeezed in by the land lady I presume, and had (my partners words) "the best bloody spag-bol she's ever had. We ordered an extra portion of garlic bread, and then had an incredible sticky toffee pudding with custard - 10/10 for the food, service was lovely and left them a nice tip just for managing to squeeze is in.

Lovely little place with a great vibe.

Thanks for making our last meal up...

Very disappointed in the service and atmosphere at the pub. Had high hopes it would have been the pub of choice for us this week seeing as we were a stones throw away… I was confronted by a very rude male customer (who apparently had a reputation for rudeness according to two other customers there when we walked out) who pushed to the front of the queue and was generally very awful to me when I tried to give my order. This was all enabled by the barman who served him first despite his rude, aggressive and demeaning behaviour. We ended up leaving before I ordered the drinks as we didn’t want to support a place that lets behaviour like...

Have passed here for nearly 20+ years to go to other pubs and only started visiting last few years… and it has consistently improved. The food we had was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar itself maybe lacks some atmosphere of a traditional ā€˜Lakeland’ pub but we prefer it in some ways as the tables are well separated so you aren’t too close to others. The newish member of staff at the bar (started May, didn’t get name sorry) was going out of his way to make the four legged friends welcome too.

Stopped by this pub when staying in a nearby campsite. The guy behind the bar was very friendly and cheery. We both loved the no airs or graces about it and all the little trinkets dotted about. We went when it was fairly quite but would imagine this is a great stop for walkers/cyclists etc. it does have a hotel but we didn't stay here so can't comment on that. But as always, dog friendly is fantastic for us

The food is very nice at a reasonable price for a bar/restaurant in a small village. The staff are nice. Have some nice real ales. I had the steak pie 1 night and fish a chips another night really enjoyed both of them would definitely have them again if I was in the area. They had quite music in the back ground so just a relaxing atmosphere what was ok for myself.
