Oh. My. Goodness. Hold onto your hats, folks, because I have just experienced a Sunday roast so utterly sublime, so breathtakingly brilliant, it has fundamentally altered my understanding of what food can be. I'm not being dramatic. Okay, maybe a little. But only because this culinary masterpiece served at The Talbot deserves ALL the drama! From the moment I stepped inside, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of pure, unadulterated Sunday bliss. The gentle murmur of happy diners, the clinking of cutlery – it was the soundtrack to a perfect afternoon. And then, then came the star of the show. The roast beef? Forget everything you thought you knew about beef. This wasn't just cooked; it was caressed by heat until it reached a level of tender perfection that made my eyes water slightly. Each slice was a velvet dream, practically dissolving on my tongue and releasing a symphony of meaty flavour that had me questioning all my life choices that didn't involve this exact moment. And the Yorkshire pudding! Oh, the Yorkshire pudding! It was a golden, airy cloud, a magnificent vessel perfectly designed to soak up the rich, deeply savoury gravy. I swear I heard angels singing as I took my first bite. It wasn't just a side; it was a spiritual experience. Let's not even get started on the vegetables. Each one – the roasted carrots with just the right hint of sweetness, the perfectly steamed broccoli with a delightful little bite, the crispy yet fluffy roast potatoes that could solve world peace if presented to the right leaders – each one was a tiny masterpiece in its own right. They weren't just afterthoughts; they were integral players in this glorious Sunday orchestra. And the gravy! Oh, the gravy! It was like liquid gold, a rich, unctuous elixir that coated every element of the plate in pure deliciousness. I considered asking for a straw. I resisted. Just. The service? Impeccable. Attentive without being intrusive, friendly without being overbearing. They clearly understood the gravity of the food they were serving and treated it (and us!) with the reverence it deserved. Honestly, if you haven't experienced the Sunday roast at The Talbot you haven't truly lived. It's not just a meal; it's a cultural event, a joyous celebration of everything that is good and right in the world. I'm already counting down the minutes until I can return. Go. Just go. Your taste buds will thank you. Your soul will thank you. You might even shed a little tear of pure, unadulterated Sunday dinner joy. You have been warned....
Read moreAlways pass the Talbot and think what a beautiful looking country pub, and from reading the reviews assumed the same - so want to put this review up to warn anyone looking for a cosy pub to go elsewhere. We were pretty shocked by how awful the decor is, if this used to be a pub somewhere along the line they've ripped out all the character and replaced it with the contents of the live laugh love aisle in the Range combined with an Indian restaurant. Starter was nice but didn't enjoy my main or dessert. The photos in reviews look much nicer than what we got, so was maybe our fault for ordering off the cheaper set menu - but I wouldn't return to find out. Staff were perfectly friendly but got a few things wrong.
It was dead cheap, so based on the other reviews if you're not fussed about it looking like a pub, give it a try, just don't expect the interior to match that gorgeous...
Read moreStaff were really friendly and helpful, the starters my wife and I had were lovely, however the Talbot 8oz beef burger was not great, the first burger was under cooked and was taken back by the waitress. I was told it was the bacon in the burger that was the pink part. I was brought a second Talbot 8oz beef burger from the kitchen and it was no different really, but I was told that it was a homemade burger that's why it was pink. In my opinion it tasted nothing like a beef burger homemade or not!!! We both had the lemon cheesecake for dessert which was really nice. I must admit the staffs attitude towards us did change by the end of the night after complaining about the food. Very over priced pub food at the...
