Excellent atmosphere, friendly people,would be my local if I lived here I will be back. When we came out it was snowing heavy, loved it. Forgot to mention open coal fire,if your passing Alston and you like an old worldly pubs then this is a must.

Strong local crowd, delightful staff, and a good pint of guiness with a shamrock on it. They were very accomodating and let me charge my electric bike that was about to die, which was the perfect excuse to get a pint by the fireplace.

Lovely little pub, full of history. Seems to be where the locals go. Great service and very reasonably priced. I have been here a few times over the years and will always pop in when on holiday nearby.

Went to visit this place last night after having been recommended it by another pub in the town.

Looked on Google and it says it was open until 11pm.

We arrived at 8 pm and the front door was closed and locked.

Abit surprised we looked through the window and saw 3 people in there drinking with the barmen stood behind the bar talking to the drinkers. We went back to the Cumberland which was open and...

Fabulous friendly pub, we called in for a drink after a long hike. We were looking to get a taxi back to Ashgill, the owner tried unsuccessfully to help us but unfortunately no taxis were available 😞 Then a wonderful local gentleman offered to take us back to our holiday let, we were very very grateful for the kind gesture. Absolutely love the Turks Head, 2nd time we been to stay in Alston this year and both week's we visited The Turks every night. You couldn't wish to meet nicer landlord's and their daughter Kirsty too. All so friendly and welcoming and made us feel like locals. The regulars are so friendly and welcoming too.
