I really don’t know where to begin! Well, firstly for what we paid we had an appalling stay. A ground floor room can only best be described as a basement room. And because the rooms were almost subterranean, there was no where for noise to go - including from the barking dog! The bed we found passable & the room in need of a refurbishment, as for the pub! We thought the pub looked totally neglected and in need of a good clean. We had rang through to ensure we had a reservation to eat or we would have chosen somewhere else. When we arrived there wasn’t a reservation! It was denied that I had called! So much so, later after eating, I rang and someone answered, ‘The White Hart’. They did however fit us in. Just go and find any table we were told. In the end I was sorry we chose to eat there. It must have been the worst pub food we have ever had the pleasure of. My haddock, looked disgusting with the skin on and tasted rubbery: I doubt it had been freshly cooked, but heated up. Chips weren’t great! My partners pasta wasn’t great either. None of it worthy of the bottle of wine! So what was good? Well the staff & the room was warm. Breakfast the next morning: requested ‘Very well done bacon’ on a bap. Well, you know what’s coming! At this point : no messing around. I had it taken away to return it as requested. Which meant I had to wait whilst my partner continues to eat. The Cappuccino was good! Frankly, what a waste of money, when there are so many other places to spend good money.

Often pass this pub on the way back from Swindon and thought we'd stop for lunch. Very pretty looking place, plenty of parking and a nice seating area to the front and side of the pub. We walked in to find only a couple of tables in use so took a seat at a nice spot. After viewing the menu the wife approached the bar to place our order. We were then told that we had to move tables as that one was reserved. There was no reserve sign on the table and an hour later when we left, nobody had used the table!! The menu options were good, matched our dietary needs and were reasonably priced. The food and drinks arrived in good time, were good quality and the meal was enjoyable. The downside was the apparent lack of service from the staff on the day. The pub was not busy, nobody checked if the meal was ok or if we wanted a desert, so missed any cross sale's. The poor chap sat on a table next to us had been waiting for thirty minutes for his desert to arrive. He eventually had to locate a member of staff, who apologised and he got it for free. Another group of three men entered the bar and were waiting for some time to be served and only got some attention when a chap at the bar shouted for assistance. When we left there was no, thanks for coming or please visit again and the two girls were engrossed in a laptop instead. Bit of a shame really as this pub could have been a very good find.

One of our best B&B on a three week trip in the UK I was looking for a typical thatched roof B&B to show my kids what it was like, without comprising too much on the quality of the B&B. The White Hart was a perfect choice. We toured the UK from Folkstone to Inverness for roughly 3 weeks this summer. This was one of our top B&B's for many reasons. The room was great, the size, the cleanness (which is not granted at all in the UK), the amenities, the value for money, so all in all it was great. Secondly the food was fabulous, both the diner & breakfast, we really enjoyed with my son the sausages, they were amazing, we will remember those! What really set this place a part is the staff / owners they were extremely helpful & customer orientated. For example I had an issue / challenge with the rooms (as my daughter absolutely wanted us to be in connecting which we had not planned) and they were able to fix this problem in a flash, so really happy about that too. It was also super dog friendly for my poodle, so perfect! Overall we really recommend this place and would definitely stay here again if in the region.

Went in for lunch. Can't comment on rooms as didn't stay overnight. When we arrived we were told to sit anywhere. No one offered us a menu. I helped myself to a menu from the table near the door. We asked what pie of day was. Were told by waitress she thought it was steak and ale but would check with chef. She never came back to tell us the answer. I has to go and ask her. I ordered 3 steak & ale pies with chips and 2 drinks. I paid as I knew we would not be having anything else. We had just called in for lunch. I paid the amount requested but thought drinks must be expensive as it was more than I thought. I asked for the bill for our records. When I checked the bill I noticed it had 10% service charge added. This irritated me as it is just a pub and I believe tip should be what you wish at the end of the meal and up to that point the service was bad !! The next customer who ordered food at the bar queried her bill as she thought it was more than expected. She was told rather bluntly a 10% service charged was added to the food. .She paid anyway. Next customer asked for the lunch menu (sandwiches) and were told they were not doing that menu. It was the main menu or nothing When the food arrived the pie had plenty of meat but the pastry was a little under cooked. We found a strange object, some kind of stalk, on one plate which was left on the side of the plate and we left. Service was not good ! It was all a bit cold. We will not be visiting again. The place was very quiet and we were there at what should be peak lunchtime. Pub we went in to in next village was packed and we could not get in. Not difficult to see why this one...

Nice welcome from friendly staff and first impression of the room was favourable. Lovely white clean bed linen and towels, and enough toiletries in the bathroom. I had the disabled room (not requested) and the shower washed over most of the wet room floor. Apart from the main door into the rooms, there was a french door - so it was not possible to have a window open for fresh air ventilation overnight. Heating very good from a small wall radiator, and excellent heated towel rail. Unfortunately the room was quite noisy due to other guests talking outside and suitcases being rolled by the room on both sides, and a very noisy barking dog in the next room. Excellent tea/coffee in the room, with the most delicious biscotti (home made??), and staff kindly gave me a flask of cold, fresh milk to take back to my room. Good lighting in the room, and I noticed that there was a hairdryer in the bedside tables drawer. TV fine. Sufficient storage space for a short holiday. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy and bed moderately comfortable. The dining area in the pub was very cold which meant eating my evening meal whilst wearing a coat. The temperature at breakfast time was just as low. Evening meal was tasty and a very generous portion size, and it was served on hot plates. Unfortunately the breakfast was served on a cold plate, and the English breakfast itself was overcooked. Despite these grumbles I would definitely visit again, and would recommend this hotel...

I went in for a mid week lunch time drink with a friend. The first thing that amazed me was the price of a glass of wine! It was over £7! This is probably set by the brewery but The Check In, also in Wroughton sells a large glass of wine for under a fiver. The second moment of frustration was when I wanted to pay the £14 + bill with a £10 note and a £5 note. She asked me if I had change and I said 'I do have some £2 coins but I save them.' Without any pleasantry she states she had no change. I did contend this once, but she insisted she was changeless and I found myself having to relinquish my £2 coins. There was about 4 other people in the pub and it was 12.30! What business doesn't have change so early in the day? The pub has an appearance of ye olde worde charm and at first glance looks lovely, but then I noticed a bowl on a table which was catching water from a leak in the roof, paint and plaster flaking off the walls and the carpet in the ladies toilets needed a good hoover. Comparatively, I went to this pub about 7 months ago for a meal with my granddaughter on a Sunday. The prices were probably similar, but we were greeted by a smiling young woman and all the staff who served us were pleasant and helpful. The food we had was delicious. I was sat in a different area and the pub was busy and as far as I could tell the place was clean and I didnt notice any problems with the building itself at that time. Maybe it could do with a refurb and bar staff that make you...
