I'm local. I've lived in this area since 1986 and used to go into this pub until the current owners took over around a decade ago. The business is family run and the family are not nice. I've been attacked by them, three times. I've been accused by the old Ex police man bill of ripping my Grand Mother off whilst caring for her and barred. I would not recommend this pub to any one as the family are rude and unpopular. The food is expensive and not as good as their competitors. The atmosphere is depressing as they do not tolerate any noise or people's views that they do not share. They are clicky and slag people off behind their backs. They are judgemental and unfair. I feel it is a shame they own the lease and I personally look forwards to when this pub changes hands again in the future and I will be glad to see the back of them. Oh yes and the licencee has recently been prosecuted under copyright law as she had failed to purchase the necessary licence for playing music and is no better than a common criminal. So if you do decide to go in there, good luck and don't expect any music or a nice...
Read moreSunday lunch in a beautiful Cornish village, is there a better way to spend an afternoon, there probably is but The White Hart provides some serious competition. We expected The White Hart to be a lot busy than it was, and there is no reason why it shouldn't have been. There were enough tables occupied to give the place a buzz, but it wasn't busy. The place was clean and tidy and had a traditional pub look both inside and out. There is additional seating outside and some of these table were taken as the weather was warm. The staff were attentive and helpful. We opted for Sunday Lunch (beef), there are lots of other menu alternatives. The food was served quickly, it was hot and there was plenty of it, certainly enough to give our two dogs a taste of the wonderful beef. The Yorkshire Pudding were delicious. All in all a very pleasant experience and as we were on holiday the chances of a return visit are remote, but given the opportunity we would...
Read moreWe unfortunately looked at the menu on line and were seduced by particularly the wonderful seafood, so we booked on that basis, big mistake!!! Nothing on the menu that smacked of the sea, just whitebait and squid as starters, but only one portion of squid available when we ordered. Squid was frozen and the chicken I had in batter with a barbecue sauce was very nondescript. As no seafood mains I chose a ‘harty’ burger, whilst my wife had no option but the vegetable lasagne. Terrible grey looking burgers with minimum cheese and bacon. Buns were not grilled and cold, French fries were the only highlight as they were at least edible, unfortunately those did nothing to mask the greasy taste that lasted many hours after the encounter. The lasagna was paper thin and overly hot due to being microwaved. The whole ambience was further enhanced by a customer being allowed to vape at the bar. Probably the worst meal we have had anywhere. Avoid...
