We like it here as it's quite local, the staff are lovely and we've been at least 4 times. But there almost always seems to be something wrong with the food. For example, once my partner's scampi and chips were both quite dark brown and fairly unappetising. She did eat most of it but, if we're honest, it should never have left the kitchen. Last time there was a one hour delay with the food due to a "lot of people" even though it didn't seem particularly busy. We were hungry and it seemed like an unpleasantly long wait however we were served eventually after an hour and five minutes. We appreciate the possibility that they might have been short staffed or something but, if this was the case, perhaps it would be a good idea to tell people before taking their drinks order... to give an opportunity to dine elsewhere perhaps. As it was, we were starving and an hour delay is no joke. At least they might have brought us a bowl of nuts or something! This time I had scampi and chips which was very nicely presented and with plenty of salad but the scampi was dark brown, almost burnt, and yet, curiously, undercooked and soggy on the inside. I'm no chef but obviously the oil was too hot which suggests to me that the person in the kitchen isn't a chef either. Come on, it's deep fried, how can you get that wrong... more than once with the same customers! Also the salad leaves were a bit gritty for which there is never any excuse. This time my partner had chosen the Chef's Special Fishcakes which seemed to be more like potato croquettes with an odd flavour. She gave one to me and it certainly didn't taste of any kind of fish. Why? How hard can it be? We do like White Lion but we know loads of good places to eat in a 60-mile radius and in Crewe this is our second-favourite. But kitchen quality control is spoiling things at present I'm afraid.

Fantastic outdoor space and really great staff make the White Lion one of our favourite regular haunts. They have done an amazing job creating a warm and welcoming outdoor area that you can enjoy no matter what the weather is doing, with covered seating and loads of heaters to share around. They are very dog friendly too, and even have some regular play-pals in the field next door to entertain the kids (and pups), along with the lovely park/play area. All round a great pub to go with friends or family, young or old. Top job guys!! 👍🥰

Had a lovely meal, homemade lasagne was delicious and a very generous portion. My wife had Scampi, also delicious with homemade chips. All very reasonably priced. We sat outside in a spotlessly clean outdoor bar area under a sturdy roof and watched the football whilst having our meal. Staff polite and courteous. Will definitely come again and can recommend.

Don't normally write reviews very often, some will be either really good or really bad. I wanted to write this one simply because it was one we will remember!

Firstly the rooms and food service was excellent, and the pub atmosphere in the pub looked really good and friendly (unfortunately we were at a wedding down the road so couldn't experience this.)

Our stay was brilliant but another mention to the really great staff at the hotel is my main reason for writing! They all made the weekend feel like we were welcomed.

Last but not least, I was late for a wedding because of a poor taxi service nearby. I was asking the receptionist at the time who happened to be the GM if he knew any cashpoints or taxi services nearby. He seen I was late and would have nearly missed it so he taken me to the venue himself. This act of kindness really makes a place like this somewhere i'll come back to and recommend to any friends or family who'd want to stay near the area over anywhere else....

My wife and I visited here last night with friends. Lovely place with some nice beers. Good service and didn't have to wait long for food. Very limited vegetarian/Vegan choices which is a shame. The portions were very generous though and the Garlic mushrooms starter was lovely. I had the Halloumi burger for mains which was OK but a little greasy for my liking as was the onion rings (it was either that or Macaroni cheese). A couple in our party had meat dishes and they looked huge portions with generous cuts of meat (one had a mixed grill). If they were to up their veggie game then I would probably visit again. Currently 14% of the U.K population is either vegetarian or vegan (and increasing!) and the menu needs to...
