USED to do an amzing cheese and ham toastie!.....
Love this place. Really pleasant staff (although kitchen staff get the grump even with reasonable, justified complaints!), an amazing array of unique tray bakes, cakes and cookies although £2.50 for a cookie is very steep! Great coffees and generally a nice menu offering a range of lovely toasties, different flavoured sausgae rolls and the like.
Nicely decorated and rustic feel with a nice atmosphere.
HOWEVER they used to do THEEE best Ham and cheese sourdough toastie with a mustard truffle mayo. So much so I had to recreate it at home. Recently though, they've opted to go cheap (but still charge £5!) and use what they call ham hock. I ordered my toastie, really looking forward to it but thought they'd given me a mashed sausage & cheese toastie! I returned it and was told it was ham hock that yes they'd perhaps over processed in their machine... certainly did NOT look like ham hock! Looked more like grey cat food - sorry guys but this is a MASSIVE decline in standard here! The toastie was TINY too... the size seems to have decreased substantially too.
You really can't charge...

Workhouse Coffee Shop in Brixworth is an absolute gem ā a haven for anyone with a sweet tooth and an appreciation for a properly brewed cup of coffee. Their cakes and pastries are nothing short of divine ā flaky, rich, and clearly made with care and top-notch ingredients. Each visit feels like a decadent little escape.
The coffee itself is solid ā strong, smooth, and satisfying, though yes, your wallet may feel a slight sting. But honestly, for the quality and atmosphere, itās worth the occasional splurge.
Now, letās be honest ā the crowd can lean a little Downton Abbey meets Instagram influencer at times. Thereās a definite air of posh pretentiousness that floats through the room, but if you can tune out the low hum of posh farmer types or private school friends itās actually quite a cozy, welcoming spot.
All in all, a lovely place to treat yourself. Come for the cakes, stay for the coffee ā and maybe bring a good book to drown out the background murmurs of unsolicited opinions on...

I have been here for coffee, a cheeky bacon sandwich, breakfast with the family, all on separate occasions, and the Workhouse does not dissapoint.
Most recently I was on a night shift and long story short I had to wake up earlier than I would have liked, by the time I had finished what I was doing I was absolutely famished so the Workhose sorted me right out (If you're interested I had coffee two slices of cake and a full English with ALL the extras, £15) I could only have been happier if I had been out on my bike beforehand!
They could rest on their laurels being the only place like this in the area... but they dont; its all well presented, though I didnt take a photo, a friendly welcome, good service, really good food and drink every time with a good mix on the menu all at a reasonable price (bearing in mind I'm from 'oop north).
These guys are now in my list of top breakfast places.... and I'm looking...
