My wife and I decided on a lot a reservation last minute lunch at Toby Carvery Braywick Road, Maidenhead yesterday, (Tuesday 8th. November 2022). We booked online at 1.45pm and got a reservation for 2.30pm. We were served by Annmarie. We arrived at 2.30pm and were immediately seated as requested and soon asked what we might like to drink. We ordered our drinks and were asked if we were having carvery and how to use it. The restaurant was quiet and we went to the carvery where we were able to go straight to the serving counter. The chef appeared very quickly and served us our meats. On our return to our table our drinks had been served. Perfect. (I drink Gin with bitter lemon, something that many establishments no longer stock. Another reason I like to go to Toby). We were pleased to find that all the large joints of meats were available plentiful, hot and moist. Excellent. The vegetables were located in a different place than usual and the chef explained that the usual area next to the meats was not hot enough to keep them. We went to the vegetable station to find that there was a plentiful, fresh, moist selection of veggies. It was an additional bonus to find that the roast potatoes had been peeled / scraped unlike the current trend to cook with skins on. Thank you. They were cooked to perfection as were the parsnips. Very nice. I had a portion of the dauphinoise potatoes and I have to say that they were excellent. (Hard to choose between roasted potatoes and them). The Cauliflower was very nicely cooked and presented. The peas and sprouts were a little undercooked by our tastes but were better than we have had for some time. (Sprouts were a little bitter which is unusual these days. We thought that it may be because some of the dark green outer leaves had been left on). The gravy was plentiful and hot and as good as ever and there was plenty of sauces. (The horseradish is always fantastic. My favourite). We rally enjoyed our meal. Sadly, we were so full that we couldn’t fit in a desert that day. (We usually do!) The food was good value at early weekday prices and the service was good. A great meal. Thank...
Read moreWent there this lunchtime with my two daughters. We were going to have Yorkshire wraps which we all looked forward too. We sat down and went to order ,after ordering we were then told no Yorkshire wrap, only bread, pannini or rolls. I ordered the Ultimate roast dinner sandwich. Which was meant to come with Yorkshire Pudding,Pig in blanket and a pot of gravy . Came with none of the above . Asked where they were and waitress didn't have a clue what I was talking about . So we went up and found the gravy and Yorkshire pudding ourselves. Even that was hard. The "cook" carving wouldn't give us any as he didn't believe us at first
My daughters sandwiches came with either roast potatoes or Salad. Weren't asked so they got roast potatoes. The sandwiches were dry and tough and stone cold . The potatoes were rock hard and STONE COLD. The waitress never communicated with us at all ,never asked if food was OK or not . When food was delivered to table it was ceremonally DUMPED on table with no smile,or " here's your food " . We were not the only ones either. I noticed one lady asked for an extra spoon for a.pudding and waited 10 mins at which point the spoon was literally dumped and the waitress walked away. I have used this Carbery over 40 times and thus was the worst service, food I have every experienced. It has gone down hill so fast. The are no priced on the unlimited soft drinks on the menu and I was absolutely flabbergasted to find out that 3 refillable drinks was £12.50. If the restaurant was busy I may have understood but it was empty . Eat here at your peril. Absolutely disgraceful customer...
Read moreWorst ever experience of eating out. From the dismissive non welcome when we arrived, staff clearly un trained, didn't know the drinks available (e,g. what ciders do you have ?) we had to wait over 30 minutes for drinks to arrive, even after chasing up the drinks, still took another 5-10 mins to arrive. There were only 4 or 5 tables, at least 5 staff, ainless wandering around, apparently on one in the kitchen. Ordered starters, staff then came back to say no prawn cocktail available, food took ages to arrive, food was below average quality, Then visited the carvery, Gammon tasted not bad, the rest looked tired, dry & cold, the spoons on the veg counter were red hot, but food was cold & dry, gravy cold, appalling poor quality of meat & veg, animals would eat better. Food had clearly been sitting around for hours, the yorkshire puddings were like bullets. Worst meal ever. We ordered more drinks, one was a nil alcohol peroni (normally a half pint bottle) , a pint of normal alcoholic peroni in a pint glass was served, 5 mins later staff returned to say the peroni was wrong & changed to the correct non-alcohol bottle, luckily the driver didn't drink the alcoholic glass. The ladies toilets were disgusting state, no toliet paper, dirty/filthy condition, clearly not cleaned or checked. When we complained manager was non existent, just sent his junior staff to try & resolve issues, is that how your management behave in a cowardly manner, just dump your young waiters in the mire, I feel sorry for your staff, if that's how there treated. We will never ever visit...
