We popped in here at random on a drive back from Wales as we needed some lunch. It took a moment or two to realise we were entering the right establishment as it looked more like someone's house than a cafe.
We ordered some toasted sandwiches and tea, staff were friendly and helpful. Nice generous pots of tea arrived and I headed to the bathroom. First stall was occupied so I use the disabled's which turned out to be lucky,. I had recently come off a 12 day water fast without doing sufficient preparation before or afterwards. I had not had a bowel movement since November. Diamonds are formed as carbon is crushed over millions of years under intense pressure. A similar process had begun in my bowels and I was in the early stages of creating the Koh i Nor of shit.
I quickly realised this was not going to be a normal BM. I removed by shirt and jumper to prepare for battle, even though the room was quite cold. Some early exploratory pushes had not been promising. It felt like a vast bolder was pushing up against a rabbit hole. I struggled in vain for a few minutes without making any real progress and wondered at my prediciment. It seemed like a medical intervention might be necessary as I was at risk of giving myself an aneurysm if this process continued. I noticed a sturdy little wooden table to my right and had a flash of inspiration. I removed the rest of my clothes, and turned the table sideways in front of the toilet. I gingerly perched on top and assumed a full squat with my rear hovering over the bowl. This was not a position I had attempted for years, but necessity sometimes forces you to take risks and fortune favours the brave. In this new position I felt renewed confidence and after a brief further struggle I was triumphant. A brick the shape and almost the size of an American football emerged and crashed into the center of the pool with a satisfying crash. After wiping carefully and putting the furniture back in place I got dressed and emerged as a victor.
I returned to find my toasties a little cold by now, but generously proportion and with a small salad on the side. The lettuce was dressed by a surprisingly high quality viscous balsamic vinegar which was lovely. It's the little touches that really make...
Read moreWent for the first time today, ordered 2 scones with jam and cream. Scones were very dry and fell apart looking at them. One small portion of jam and one exceptionally small portion of cream for 2 scones ( between 2 of us), with 2 hot drinks, one of which needed to be remade as the pouring cream reacted badly to the hot coffee. Poor hygiene behind the counter, long hair being flicked around, scones part prepared were left sat on the counter for an eternity until a staff member asked, "are these ready to go out?" Not worth £15 and won't ever return. There are better places out there. As an ex mystery shopper, this business needs massive improvement. Signage stated they were short staffed but the premises are small and I counted at least 4 staff. Find somewhere...
Read moreLovely little place. We visited on a Sunday lunchtime, it was quite, but I expect it does get busy. Staff are very nice, it is clean and quirky. The food is lovely and a good selection of cakes on the counter. I had the mozzarella panini, which was lovely. My friend and her sister had the special, Welsh rarebit, which they both enjoyed.
We sat in the garden, which is lovely, like being in the countryside, which it was once upon a time. It is now on a busy corner.
There is also a small gallery where you can buy artwork ( its not cheap though!) . Besides this, there is another cafe/gallery, but is was...
