What an earth has happened!!?? we used to be a member of this hotel until 2020 when the service really started going down hill however even though the service was bad we recalled the food in this beautiful restaurant was always fantastic. My husband decided to book a table for Valentines with a special Valentines menu with champagne, oysters and Chateaubriand sounded great........on our arrival there was no doorman, nobody to greet us anywhere. We waited to be seated in the restaurant...it was full yet we only saw 3 staff to serve everyone. We sat down and were given a menu without much interaction. The waiter walked away...we were both very shocked to see a very plain menu consisting of steaks, risotto, salad and a beef wellington...we called the manager to ask where the Valentines menu was which they advertised for Valentines day when booking, to be told it was sold out and the manager just walked off, no apology or explanation, he didnt even seem to care!! We pondered on this for a few moments and decided we would not stay as this was not the wonderful menu offered on booking, was just plain pub food and clearly the service had become even worse! We got up from out table and waited by the door without any staff even noticing. We explained to the manager we would not be staying as we did not want to eat from this menu and he just said 'okay'...again no apology, showing no concern for the customers or willingness to be in his job or do it well. Our journey here takes 50 minutes and 50 minutes home so we spent most of our Valentines evening in the car followed by toast when we arrived home....lucky our love is strong but what a complete waste of time......not sure how this hotel will stay open; what was once a stunning restaurant with ambience, sommelier, fine dining and friendly staff has turned into a haunting sham for this wonderful mansion with so much charm and history to offer if managed by the right people. Do not waste your money or think you will get a special meal here; there are plenty of much better places to eat and stay not...

Me and my husband got married at Luton Hoo. Today we took our son (5 months old) and our sister with her daughter (4 years old) back for lunch there to recall our good memories. However we were all so dissapointed at the services offered here. Although the staffs at the door as well as the reception were exceptionally nice, the waitors and waitresses were totally opposite. Before the foods came out, my son cried out loud. I quickly pushed him out of the restaurant area and we went around the mansion until he stopped crying. And when he was nearly asleep, I took him back to the restaurant and I stood by our table pushing the pram back and forth to make sure he would fall to deep sleep before I could sit down and enjoy my foods. However, while I was doing so, a waitor came up and asked me to push the pram out because (as he quoted ) it was disturbing to others. But I looked around and everyone else was all having fun with laughs and loud conversations. So I asked him who actually found it disturbing because I was standing by my table at one place and my pram didnt make any noises at all either. He couldnt answer and then he turned to my sister's daughter and asked her to volumn down her iphone's noise down instead (even though it was at 1 level of sound). This was the first time ever that I was asked to push the pram out. Even at other restaurants when the baby cried, they came and asked if I needed any help. They even tried to smooth the baby down on my behalf so that I could finish up my dishes. But here, at such a classy restaurant, me and my not-crying-baby were asked to leave because it was DISTURBING? He couldnt even find a better word to say. So...

Booked in for a 6:30 dinner. Prefer to eat early. Restaurants closed however and invited to wait in lounge with menus. 30 minutes later finally invited back into the restaurant.

More delay. At 7:15 they took our order. Not to difficult to choose, 6 starters, 6 main course and 6 puddings all in for £52 each. We'd had 45 minutes with the menus by then. Nothing else. But for £52 it should be amazing.

Or so I thought ...

Then an age awaiting our first course. 8 p.m. in fact. 90 minutes after our booked reservation.

No drinks, only water.

Food highly seasoned. Always a sign the chef is rushed and too liberal with the salt.

At 8:45 we've eaten. Bill arrives more promptly than any of the three courses had.

Now the shock. Not £52 each. £79 each. Would you believe they had the cheek to charge for the vegetables served with the main course. Not extras I should add, these were the vegetables served on the plate with the chicken fillet. So nothing we'd ordered - just something that was dumped on the plate with the meats.

Plus a compulsory 10% service charge.

So kept waiting. Slow in all respects. Very average food, over-seasoned. Tiny portions. Hidden charges for vegetables that were never ordered.

£160 for two? Never again. The Wernher should be ashamed of themselves. Chandeliers alone do not justify mega prices. We expect good food too.

On the way out I was informed the kitchen had been staffed by only one chef and a trainee assistant. With over 50 covers.

Save yourself a journey. Hugely...

Wonderful unhurried service and perfectly presented dishes in a magnificent opulent marble laden pillared walls with high ceilings overlooking the spectacular rear gardens of the Mansion. Sunday lunch was perfect, every morsel of food was incredible with the best Yorkshire puddings we've ever eaten out! A well cooked lunch, beautiful fresh asparagus starter and well presented caramelised Apple tart was the perfect dessert. The petit fours were a lovely end to a delicious meal. Service was initially a little slow because of COVID restrictions and a very busy service but the staff were so lovely despite all of the extra tasks to keep us all safe so patience is a virtue at the moment. The room is very warm so recommend you dress appropriately. I had a pashmina which I didn't need once seated and was glad I wasn't wearing a warm outfit. If you are looking for an indulgent Sunday afternoon or dinner, highly recommend. Only open Wednesdays to Sundays. Advise booking early especially for Sunday lunch as it is very busy. Fish and vegetarian options are available but I would let them know in advance if you are vegan so they have the best options available for your visit.

I gotta say, I was really excited to eat dinner here. The spa is good, the rooms are lovely, but the foods absolutely the worst I’ve had at a 5* hotel. Our starters, the bacon was burnt and nobody had taken our drink orders. Our mains came out - red pepper risotto was flavorless, my pork - recommended by the server - was completely burnt and couldn’t cut. We got desserts and were told after we ordered that one was ran out, despite there being one other diner in the room. My dessert, which was lemon curd baked Alaska, was just vanilla. When I asked about the curd one person said it was in the ice cream, then another server came over and said that the meringue was “made with lemon juice” and that made it a curd? My drink came out with my dessert. Absolutely a shame, especially for the price.
