Saturday visit 29th. Well we did go back, the place was cleaner and looked fine. Sat down, checked the menu and went to the bar to order. Well rhere was one girl at a till with a queue of about 6 people so I moved along to another lady serving a guy. When he left she shot off and was working the glass washer. After another 5 minutes a guy came & waited 5 mins then left, so I ended up having to ask 3 people if I was going to get served.. I had been waiting 15 minutes whilst girls walked back n forth behind the bar. They didn't have all the ingredients to make pina coladas. The food I will say was very good indeed. Wife had cajun dry rub chicken and I had a beef rib skillet. Plus a portion of bone out wings for 2. Full of flavour, hot and mighty fine. Excellent food. We had no check back and two tables in our area had dirty glasses on and dirty plates. The place was busy with a fair number of children in. So, food is spot on. Service very lacking. Come on Green King, train your staff. Original first visit. Not a good experience. Wife & I popped in at 7pm ish Sunday. On first impression it seemed ok, then we saw the mess under tables and on the floor. Chips, napkins and bits of paper everywhere. So got in sat down selected food n drinks and off to the bar I went. There was just 2 behind the bar and around 8 adults trying as well as getting drinks. The problem was it took HALF an hour before I got seen. Ordered food ok then asked how much the gins were to a don't know. So I asked her to look up the price of a double, so a Bombay came in at 5.50. Now next to the till was a board that said choose gin, choose garnish (lime I said) and mixer. Didn't have fever tree light so schweps it was. Turned out she put lime cordial in and it was a cocktail that came in at nearly 8 quid. The food was okish, wife had a med rare rump which was overcooked but tasty. I had the big medium rib eye which was a bit chewy but cooked ok. It came with Mac cheese which was anemic. Not grated cheese grilled on top. Chips were Luke warm and rubbery. One guest beer on tap that was zingy, wife said pipes hadn't been cleaned but too late to do anything about it. Will we be back..... No

Had an appalling meal here during the bank holiday weekend. Booked a table ahead of time but when we arrived we stood for about 5 minutes being blanked by multiple members of staff who walked past with their heads down not making eye contact. We had to ask at the bar to be sat down and were eventually taken to our table. The place seemed dirty with stuff on the floor and tables not cleaned. The toilets were also dirty, some cubicles with no loo roll and no soap in one of the dispensers. The food menu was good and had plenty of options then we ordered on the app to save having to wait to get staff's attention again. 20 minutes later our drinks finally arrived. 50 minutes later from ordering, our food arrived (can't understand why it took so long as the place was half empty and we weren't told there would be a significant wait for food). My Mac n cheese was a disappointment to say the least, a tiny child's size portion, the side salad was just leaves, no tomato, cucumber or dressing, the best bit was the garlic bread! I finished it in about 5 minutes, completely unsatisfied. My husband ordered the enchiladas and they were stone cold in the middle, not lukewarm but actually cold! We were horrified and took it back to staff to complain. 10-15 minutes later and he's still without a meal, by which point myself and my father in law had finished ours so we had to go and ask again for his meal to be replaced which it eventually was. Staff member marched out without a smile and plonked it on the table saying "they you are", no apology whatsoever. Again, it wasn't piping hot, only just warm. Couldn't wait to get out the place. I'm not one to complain but having spent the weekend with our terminally ill grandfather, all we wanted was a quick and easy dinner and we got anything but. No apology, no refund, no nothing. Judging by the other reviews, we are not the only ones to be let down by this place, the management and chefs ought to sort it out before they make someone ill. Will certainly not be coming back and will be encouraging others to avoid it!

So today myself and my sister came to Whistling Goose expecting the usual Dippy Burger - however they e changed the menu. No big deal! - I thought to myself, and ordered something else. After a reasonable wait we received our meals, loads of things missing off of the order as well as the images being missleading on the menu. (Sauce on the picture comes on the burger, not on the side in a tub as perceived, burger assembled differently etc) As we asked for these items, the Waitress who served us was more than happy to oblige! Really polite and lovely, then they opened the door to the Kitchen (right where we are sat) and was talked to like dirt by the kitchen staff for THEIR mistake. We could also hear bits and pieces of the chef's complaining about US returning ttlhe food. Fair enough, it's a newish menu, they're still getting used to it, but that is no excuse for stale bread on the burgers we ordered, forgetting the pulled pork and bacon completely off of the burger, soggy onion rings and the "seasoned fries" were cold and definitely not seasoned. Not to mention the basically rock solid bread bun that was on the top, and the super soggy bread that was on the bottom that none of us ate. By this point we just ate what we wanted and then left, no point in complaining for a third or fourth time. I would like to add that as the food got colder, it became almost...solid? It was genuinely rock solid to the point where I would liken it to chewing on rocks. Over all, really disappointed in my visit and honestly I wouldn't visit again in a hurry. Positive notes: The pulled pork was absolutely delicious. Once we got it, it was amazing. Juicy, fresh, hot. A real high point.

To sum up my experience: Cheap yet Nasty.

Visited with my family for lunch (2 adults and 2 children) as we wanted to let the kids blow off a bit of steam in the outdoor play area.

Whilst the table appeared clean, all the menus on the table were filthy and stuck together but I overlooked this as 'one of those things'.

The menu was pretty vast.. if you like anything deep fried or microwaved and we settled on some basic grub as we was all hungry.

We ordered our food and drinks at the bar and the barman was polite and prompt. I opted against having a coffee as I looked over at the coffee machine to see the milk steamer was coated in old dried milk and obviously not cleaned since the last coffee was made.

I was starting to doubt my decision to come here at this point but nevertheless we ordered food (with some alternatives to original choice as some items was out of stock) ans we went to use the facilities before playing outside whilst we waited.

The male toilets had a significant pool of water under the urinals, potentially from a leak and I would have been forced to stand in it to use them so I took my kids into the disabled/baby changing toilet which also had a large pool of water towards the rear of the toilet but at least we could use it without wet feet! The tap was loose and broken so it was back into the mens to wash our hands.

After 45mins (with now two very hungry and worn out kids) I had to chase a barmaid where my food was for it to arrive roughly an hour after ordering. I wouldnt have expected it to take that long, nor was I informed their was a long wait on food

Our side dishes didn't arrive with our meals and they came out another 10mins later.

We ate our food (the quality was poor but we would have ate a scabby horse at this point) and left...

Unfortunately the experience today means we won't be going back. It's not the first time in a Greene King pub so I'll be dodging this chain in future.

Two stars purely because the play area wasn't a child deathtrap and the...
