We took a visit to The Wichel inn for some dinner after visiting coate water. We were originally won over by their fantastic menu choices, so much to choose from and it is safe to say we were defiantly spoilt for choice. Apon arrival we were greated by two friendly smiley members of staff who settled us in quickly with such amazing friendly service. The restaurant wasn’t too busy at the time and we were able to choose where we would like to be seated with our young child. We would have normally ordered using the table Qr code however because we had some changes to make to the dishes we decided to order at the bar. Although The changes we made to our food were for preference reasons and not allergy related, The young man who served us ( still learning the till himself) Was a great help in taking off or adding in anything we required! The manger also double checked our order with us to assure the kitchen staff received all the correct information. It was no problem for any of them, and the staff were happy to help make our meals exactly how We would like them. Ordering and receiving our food was done in a quickly timely and friendly manner. The food looked great on arrival and we was excited to get stuck in. The meal itself was fantastic, it looked great, it smelt great and it taste lovely. All three members of our family enjoyed their meal so much we all agreed we would return at a later date to eat here again. Fantastic first impressions, fantastic friendly service and we look forward to coming to eat with you again....

The staff are delightful and as they are on the front line...thank goodness. The beer, not that my partner had a pedigree, did look well.
However the pub in general is in a sad state of neglect. Having spent a quarter of a century near Burton on Trent having run a pub kept ales and watched the years change the face of the public house, why oh why does the bayberry sit in the 1990's?
Food today should inspire Decour could reflect a more upbeat approach. The lavatories should be somewhere you don't feel you are going to catch something if you go to the loo.... Even if it was 10.30pm on a Friday or Saturday night, I believe a certain pub chain based there market on pleasant facilities.....
I like to find the good in most places, I really believe if someone is trying to create a great place to eat whether it's a fish and chip shop or gastro pub there is something extra about a cared for place. I've never felt so let down by a place which serves such good ale. Please let the area manager see this and realise that this is not just about the folk running this pub, but Marston's lack of pride and professionalism in how they present themselves.

Read moreVisited tonight as a party of 9 andd had nothing but trouble! We will not be visiting again! Problems encountered: Ordered 2 x steak dishes from the specials board, and they both arrived without onion rings and with peas instead of rocket salad 2 x hunters chicken 1 came without corn on the cob and 1 with, but both without bbq sauce. When asked for the bbq sauce we were brought gravy. 1 x vegetarian tart that came with chips rather than wedges. 1 x pasta dish that didnt even cover the bottom of the bowl 1 x chocolate brownie dessert that came with custard instead of ice cream 1 crownie that was so burnt it sizzled like chicken fajitas when the fork touched it. We asked for tomato ketchup and the waiter came back to ask us what we wanted as he forgot. Despite complaining no good will gesture was offered. The staff didnt seem passionate about what they were doing and didnt really have a clue what was happening. Its a shame really as this used to be a nice place to have a quick meal, but it's now terrible! I wont be visiting again, you can forgive 1 or 2 errors but when more than 50% of your orders arent as advertised and the service is poor it certainly makes parting with your money difficult! (They had the missing food as well as they eventually delivered the onion rings, wedges...
