Forest Gate — Restaurant in Epping Forest

I don't normally write reviews, but I had very disappointing experience here on NYE. I went with my three year old son to meet some friends for lunch on New Years Eve. We got there just after 1 pm and they had stopped taking orders for food because they had a backlog. This in itself is perfectly sensible, however, the pub was not able to provide anything for my 3 year old. The lady at the bar was rude and refused to even entertain the idea of considering any options! It wasn't like they'd run out of food. I was happy to go without... However, it's difficult to tell a 3 year old he can't have lunch because the bar staff are miserable! Poor service, poor attitude and won't be rushing...

The Forest Gate Inn never disappoints, I used to frequent it regularly. This was however the first visit back in over 13 years since I moved away, but I am happy to say nothing much has changed. It is still every bit as charming and quaint as I remembered it. Dog friendly, roaring fire, no slot machines, and a wall full of gorgeous books. Lovely traditional pub with plenty of outdoor seating - ideal after a walk through the forest on a sunny day. Beer good, barman seemed a bit fed up...perhaps like us he didn't like the music blaring outside. The sound quality was atrocious, if they had turned it down a notch the tinny sound wouldn't have been so obvious!!
