We recently dined at the Roosters restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a frustrating experience from beginning to end.
Our evening started off on a sour note with a 20 minute wait for our table, despite having a reservation. I suppose it wasn’t the worst thing that could’ve have happened while dining out and in isolation you would move on quickly from it, but it set the tone for what was to come.
The service was incredibly slow and when the drinks order finally arrived, they were wrong. To compound this issue the order for our starters was very late and was also incorrect. At this time some frustration was setting in at the table of six, but I asked the table not to make a complaint at this point.
However, the mains were the final straw. When they finally arrived at 1hr 45 minutes into the dining experience three of the meals were stone cold, which completely ruined the meal. Cold food is just unacceptable, especially at a place that claims to have a good reputation.
At this point I decided to speak with the manager in a low-key manner, hoping for some acknowledgment of the poor experience. Unfortunately, she was dismissive, didn’t listen to the points I was trying to make, and seemed uninterested. I was simply met with an apology that felt insincere and the comment ‘it happens sometimes’.
We’ve dined at the Morley Hayes restaurant often, usually our first choice for a family event but given the issues with both the service and the food, I won’t be returning in the near future, which is a shame. Our next family event will be to celebrate Easter Sunday with a table of eight which is now booked at the Horsley Lodge.
Dining out should be an enjoyable experience, but sadly, this visit left us disappointed and frustrated.

Read moreIt has been some time since my friends and I met for dinner at Morley Hayes, which we have previously liked for its extensive menu and good service. We booked a table for teatime and were shown to our table promptly by polite staff. We ordered our food, I ordered the Chicken tikka masala which was quite pricey at £18.45, with some chips on the side which cost an additional £3.95. Our food order came after a reasonable period of time, but 4 out of the 5 dishes looked like they had been placed in the oven and then forgotten about, they were overcooked. Two of my friends asked to return their dishes as the chicken was hard enough to cause damage to teeth. The initial response from the waitress was 'oh dear' and then silence before she finally said 'would you like me to take it back?'. The dishes were returned and brought back a short time later, but in all honesty they didn't look much better but my friends were very hungry by this point. My curry was pleasant enough, but the chips were tasteless and too chewy, to the point where I was unable to continue eating them. The rice was also overcooked. One of my friends had ordered garden peas but was served with mushy peas. The waiting staff are pleasant but they were very young on the evening we attended and I feel like there was a lack of attention to detail - we were asked a couple of times after returning the meals whether everything was alright, but to be honest I doubt they would have done anything if we had said actually, this isn't good enough. My bill came to £28.90 in total for a meal that was poorer quality than what I have eaten in Wetherspoons and with a restaurant of Morley Hayes reputation, it should be better. I won't be returning...
Read moreHad lunch at Roosters to celebrate daughter's day 2022. It was an amazing experience overall.
The menu is varied and there are the pub classics as well as Morley Hayes specials. The prices are understandable given the standard of the restaurant and the food itself. There are plenty vegan, GFO and vegetarian options available. The drinks and desserts are also available in ample quantity.
There's plenty of seating space indoors and outdoors and a lovely view of the golf course from the floor to ceiling windows. The ambiance of the bar is no less than that of a £££ fine dining restaurant. And of course there’s plenty of parking spaces.
The food was delicious beyond expectations. We ordered Morley Hayes special, vegan burger, Korean Style fried chicken burger and chicken kebabs for the mains and it was (lip-smackingly) delicious. The serving size is great (much more than the standard expensive restaurants). We also ordered garlic bread to go with our drinks - orange marmalade G&T, beer, lemonade and coke - which was like any homemade garlic bread. The real deal was the dessert - sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. It is our family’s tradition to order this particular dessert at every restaurant. The STP at Roosters was simply a beauty - in our top 3 list.
The staff is professional, kind, and welcoming. We requested our mains to be served 1/2 hour after our drinks and they made that happen.
Therefore, it was a great experience and we left with happy faces and tummies!! Definitely recommend if you want to...
