The mark of a good place is when you immediately start thinking who else you can take there or which of your loved ones would like it. We did that. You can't see Stable View from the road so it's a nice surprise when you get there, a lovely building with a great view. The staff were superb, very friendly and efficient and a major selling point. Top that with fantastic food and drink and you can't lose. The sausages are enormous and as good as they look. Good prices and the nice atmosphere of a place that's full of content people is always a winner. An asset to the area and well worth a visit. One minor thing was we could not follow the map on the website at all. It's a lovely map, but could do with a couple of lines like "go through stile" or "follow yellow waymarks" as nothing is obvious. From Dale Abbey, the only footpath we could find between buildings was by the pub which took us floundering across private land and locked gates. Even heading back to Spondon, we followed the path past the Stable View sign and ended up on a busy main road in Stanley. Maybe it's us. I understand signs along the route are on the way so that'll help us with the map.

A welcoming venue with highly attentive staff. There is plenty of seating throughout, although some are comfier than others. The tables for two seemed barely able to hold a plate and mug for each two guests and the chairs were also flimsy. A sides that, the alternative larger tables were much sturdier. Main course food was delicious, well presented and fresh. Cakes were somewhat of a disappointment as they looked amazing, but sadly, the taste and quality did not match. My chocolate muffin, priced at £3.95 was neither natural nor unpleasant; tasting of commercially prepared cake mix with no chocolate flavours asides the chocolate button decorations. My partner's millionaire's shortbread also priced at £3.95, lacked a home-made flavour despite the price suggesting it would be a buttery and toffee-topped treat. I would still enjoy a return visit, but would forfit the confectionary. Our coffees were very tasty, hot and served with a Biscoff. It's Definitely worth a visit just for a quick coffee.

We arrived on a busy Friday lunchtime and a queue was forming for tables. However, staff were polite and efficient, doing their best to accommodate people. We were offered a side window bench which we took and a waitress came to tell us their specials. Lucky us, we landed on a newly introduced Fish Friday and whilst we pondered our choices, a "proper" table came free and we were waved over. We placed an order of fish and chips each and also requested if we could takeaway a pulled pork panini for our son. A very reasonable reduction in price was offered for this. After a slight but expected wait for how busy it was, our food arrived and it was all freshly cooked, delicious and plentiful. The panini was brought over towards the end of us eating and stayed hot for us to take home. Will definitely be back, and hope fish Friday continues

Upon arrival, my partner was promptly instructed to finish and dispose of our takeaway coffees before being seated. This interaction left her feeling very nervous and uncomfortable as though she was not welcome. We had intended to spend over £35 on breakfast and beverages between the two of us, the manner in which this policy was communicated felt unnecessarily abrupt and unwelcoming, considering the premium price tag, something we are willing to pay but would expect premium service alongside.

Initially, we chose to overlook the tone of the first interaction, despite my partners anxious feelings. However, when the waitress returned and again insisted we dispose of our cups—this time more forcefully—it left us feeling uncomfortable. At that point, we decided to cancel our order and leave.

We fully understand that establishments may have policies regarding outside food and drinks, but we believe these can be communicated in a more courteous and respectful manner, especially when guests are clearly planning to dine in and support the business. In contrast, we’ve never encountered such issues at comparable establishments like The Cowshed, which is happy for us to enjoy our drinks in a comfortable manner, provided we purchase additional drinks from the establishment. The whole experience left a terrible taste in my mouth and ruined my birthday morning.

Regrettably, based on this experience, we will not be returning and will be sharing our concerns with...

Very nice location and the space is decorated and laid out well. We visited on a Sunday and the Weekend menu was a limited version of the full menu which I found strange, especially as I had looked at the menu before we went and liked the look of the build-your-own burger for lunch or the Waffles if we went for breakfast. We decided to sit outside mainly because several parties inside made it extremely noisy. Service was quick and friendly, and the food was a good example of typical Cafe fare, I had the BBQ Chicken Panini and subbed Fries for chips, it was good and the Fries were crisp and seasoned well, though the BBQ sauce was quite sweet. Tom had the Turkey Club which he enjoyed, Mum had a Toasted Ham and Cheese on Gluten Free Bread both also upgraded to the Fries. I tried their Cookies and Cream Milkshake which was good, for dessert, I had a homemade Millionaires Shortbread which was very nice, I also tried a Pass n Shoot Smoothie which was ok. Sitting outside had one drawback there is a serious Wasp problem Even though you can see multiple traps around the parking lot it really impacted...
