We visited for Christmas Day lunch yesterday. I was surprised to not only have to pay the deposit, but also the entire meal up front a few days before Christmas. I understand the need to minimise wastage but paying for a meal before knowing what the outcome will be like is strange. Luckily, the food was good. Our starters were the mushroom soup and baked Camembert. The soup was fantastic and had lots of chunky mushrooms and a wonderful rocket pesto drizzle. The Camembert was also well prepared with a good crumb and a nice, sweet apple slaw. For mains, our group had the turkey and the sea bass. There was plenty of turkey, but also plenty (too much) gravy which, whilst nice, was over salted. I’d definitely suggest to the restaurant serving the gravy on the side so people can serve themselves to their preference. Also, one minor gripe but I know it’s not traditional to have Yorkshire Puddings with turkey, but it is 2017, and becoming tradition to have Yorkshire Puddings with any roast! The sea bass was very good - fresh and well cooked with a lovely sauce. Desert was Tarte au Citron and Chocolate Torte, which were both fine. Finishing off with coffees and warm mince pies was a nice end to a nice lunch. Fantastic, swift and warm service. All in all, a nice, tasty and filling change from the usual stress and fuss of a home cooked Christmas lunch. We definitely needed the 25m walk home after it!

I was visiting on a work trip and arrived later due to flight delays. 1st the reception is in the pub so a bit confusing to identify. I was pushed to order food if I wanted as the kitchen would be closing at 8:30 when it was posted as 9. Then I was informed that what my company had understood to have breakfast included that it was not and I would need to order & pay before to ensure I got breakfast. I inquired if it was not available to order in the morning and the lady said no, it would be brought to my room. After an hour of driving from a delayed flight and long day travelling, I wasn't prepared for this. The room was too warm. A towel warmer that could not be turned off was probably the cause. Mold in the shower, bed very low to the ground and a clock that ticked so loud it was difficult to sleep. The artificial orchid even looked sickly! The walls in my room had lots of scuff marks and scrapes in the paint. The sink in the toilet was tiny. The shower controls were very difficult to adjust and it was set on full hot so took a bit of difficulty to adjust. It was not an ideal stay from start to finish. I have let our travel booking to delete this option for my monthly business trip as its just too many items on the negative side.

We didn't eat at the pub so, I can only comment on the rooms. Reception is in the corner of the bar, the welcome was perfunctory and they are very keen to get you signed up and paying for breakfast as quickly as possible, which did irritate me. After a 3 hour drive, just back off a bit. We said no. You have to do this before they shut at 9.30pm. There are better ways of asking. We stayed in room 6 and it was an excellent sized room, very spacious. The bed was firm but not too firm. WiFi was decent. My only niggles were no hot chocolate sachets and the shower head had erectile dysfunction and also leaked. The photo is from the bedroom window. Would we stay again? Maybe.

I went to The Elm Tree Inn with my Mother, it has a beautiful decor was clean & tidy with plenty of nice places in and out to sit

The disabled toilet was a good size and didn't have an impractical layout like some do.

However the regular ladies room was small to say the least, the door which didn't lock properly was literally touching my knees once I'd sat down.

The automatic light switched off half way through my visit to the ladies room. My mum said they didn't even switch on when she used the ladies. Apart from that they were reasonably clean

The restaurant had a nice decor, table we sat at was uneven, the chairs were comfortable, however being on the larger side a bit of a squeeze so if you are on the larger size you'd need to ask for chairs without arm sides.

The table was presented nicely however missing a desert folk and could have done with sharper knives as they were so blunt

We had a Large Cavary & a Small Cavary We both had Beef which was slightly over cooked & alittle chewy, Gravy could do with more flavour.

The roast potatoes were frozen and deep fried unfortunately, Good selection of veg & the Yorkshire puddings looked amazing but had no taste and as the gravy had no taste it let the yorkies down.

We are picky when it comes to our slice of meat and unfortunately we got to the restaurant as dinner was finishing up so we ended up getting the fatter end of the beef that was left.

Mr Bogus my staffy got most of the meat as we wrapped it up for him and brought it home, no complaints from him lol.

The deserts are always our favourite part and they had a good selection we ordered a sticky toffee pudding, lemon cheese cake & chocolate brownie.

The Sticky toffee pudding was absolutely amazing, good size & best we've had, would have liked the option of cream with it but they only served it with ice cream which was the smallest scoop ever so would definitely would have liked two scoops of ice cream

The same can be said for the brownie it was a gorgeous brownie but needed more cream or ice cream

The cheese cake was a baked cheese cake which was ok, however need more cream cheese added to the mixture as you couldn't taste the cheese part of the cheese cake The chef said it was made with mascarpone but in my opinion needed a stronger creamcheese.

The staff were friendly and helpful willing to answer any questions we had.

Overall it was a nice place but a bit more attention needed to the food is needed If your not a foodie its properly a great place to go. if you are a foodie then I would...
