Myself and a large group were recently visiting the Forest of Dean for a long weekend break and decided to visit the pub for a Sunday dinner. We called the day prior and made a booking, stating our group would be between 10-14 people and explained that it all depends who was attending with us.

The group ended up being lower than the 10, to a group of 9 due to unforseen circumstances. When we arriver, there was a particular staff member who was rather rude in her welcome and displayed dissatisfaction that our group was lower in numbers than stated and she'd had to turn away another group of 7. That isn't our problem; they should have booked and this almost lost you a group of 9 too.

Alas, we stayed as the other staff members were very friendly and welcoming. The beer selection was good and the views and setting of the pub were lovely.

The menu selection was limited to the Sunday Menu which was fine, and the starters were very nice, which set the bar quite high. Majority had halloumi fries, some the Pate and one had fried Brie in which no complaints were raised.

Then the Sunday dinner.. you essentially get a bowl of Gravy with some meat absolutely drowning, and some small portions to share of basic veggies. I couldn't tell if the lamb I ordered was actually lamb, only the beef gets Yorkshire puddings and it was comparable to a school dinner. We all left extremely disappointed.

Reading the reviews previous, I don't know if we just caught them on a bad day or something, but personally, I wouldn't eat here again. Brilliant place for a pint if you're out on a walk, but that's as...

We were staying at the Forest Holidays retreat in Forest of Dean and found this place on Google just a 2 minute drive from the retreat. Upon first arrival we drove down a narrow country lane and initially thought we had gotten lost and there it was right on the corner before the farm. The pub felt like coming home to your grandparents and Lynn was very welcoming upon arrival, The pub decor was Old England complete with solid beams and nicely decorated to suit with twinkly lights and a welcoming warm atmosphere. We were promptly seated and given enough time to choose from the menu, without it feeling too long or staff ontop of you. We went for the steak and chips followed by apple crumble, whilst our little one had chicken korma. The food was delicious and hands down the best meal we have eaten out in a while! The portion size was generous and they even made sure we were happy with little ones meal (spoon, plate, bowl etc) before leaving us. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff should be proud of what they do to make this the best pub around! Thank you so much for making my Birthday extra special, even though you were just doing what you do every day! We definitely reccomend and will be...

What a Fabulous Pub. The Attention to detail was very very good. Food OK, (Lunch Menu) can't Rave about it tbh but it was a set price for Starters & Mains & was of all high Quality and Value for Money. Lunch Menu, which is what they intend for the Locals to swing by & enjoy. I get it! Maybe an alternative 'A La Carte' Menu could be arranged with just a few Spectacular dishes available (Fish & Steak for example) so people could or could not choose from and pay the extra for. I get it that you may think you could then be left with leftover produce not sold so would effect your bottom line financially, BUT if not then used...you then have the option of just putting it into your 'Pie of the Day' Lovely Atmosphere, Bar Manager very attentive and Great Service throughout. Could have done without the initial Wecoming Commitee of a Barking, Growling Jack Russell dog on the Balcony. Yup...NOT a Good look, regardless of the sign warning you of...

Nice pub tucked away at the bottom of a hill – though terrible if you need phone reception! It has a charming country vibe and is always quite busy on Sundays. The garden is great for summer, with views of rolling hills, and the interior is spacious and cosy, with several rooms branching off from the main lobby. The main bar area has a good selection of drinks, with Butty Bach being the highlight – an excellent Wye Valley ale. Prices are standard for the area. The Sunday roast is consistently good and offers great value for money. I’ve had the lamb leg before, and while it’s nice, I feel like having the bone in would be more traditional. The sides are what you’d expect, and the gravy is good too. Overall, it’s probably the best Sunday roast in the area for value and quality, and I always make a point to visit when I’m around the area.

We didn't have a bad time and the food was edible. The food just wasn't good. The pie was not at all good and I genuinely would rather have had a Greggs steak bake. And that would have been a tenth of the price. My partner ordered scampy and chips, the scampy seemed like it was frozen food warmed up too long. She also would have preferred a Greggs steak bake. Other comments have said that it seems that the food is a warm-up job which is fine if that is what you are paying for, however, at £16.95 for a bang average pie. Could have fed an entire family at Greggs for that price. I wouldn't eat here again. The service was ok, waiter wasn't friendly but neither unfriendly. OK seems to sum up our evening. There was a fun photo in the gents though.

Once in a while you have a surprise and this was one of those occasions. It’s one of the best Sunday lunch we have had for a very long time. Looked on Google maps and found the the pub local to us where we were staying. Callled in without a reservation but still managed to get us in 2 adults and a dog they could not be more welcoming I don’t think we have met anyone more accommodating. Before we ordered food a fresh bowl of water and treats for our dog. The food was wonderful so fresh and tasty the manager was easy to talk to and so chatty without being over powering or intrusive. We will be back !
