I’d highly recommend Cafe Darkhane in Pelaw. The warmest of welcomes and very delicious food. We had only tried a few Nepalese dishes before visiting but staff were happy to give advice about the menu and dishes. Food was absolutely delicious and portions were generous. We both loved our starter of chicken momo (Nepalese dumplings) and the curries were perfectly cooked and expertly spiced. The rice and keema paratha accompaniments were also generous and very moreish. £35 was incredible value for food of this quality (2 starters and 2 mains; it is BYO so we brought beer from home.) We were not sure what to expect from this restaurant and Nepalese food, but from our first meal we were blown away.
The staff are incredibly friendly and you can they they have been in the industry for years.
The food is amazing and reasonably priced. You can taste the quality and knowledge that goes into the dishes from the chef. From the full Nepalese meals, to chicken wraps and English dishes, we cannot complain about a single thing.
Pelaw and The surrounding Gateshead area is very lucky to have a restaurant of this calibre.
