Doug's Cafe — Restaurant in Gloucester

I Rang the restaurant at midday asking for a cash order. The owner said that he doesn’t normally do cash order, because in the past he’s had people who don’t pay the driver. And the driver ends up leaving because thier busy and they leave without paying. But because I sounded genuine the owner made an exception for me. So over the phone I placed an order of a large jerk chicken with rice and peas and a large steam fish with rice and peas. When the driver came I gave them a hand written receipt and the payment of cash, As proof of payment that driver has accepted it. When the driver returned to owner he was very pleased and grateful that I did that for him. So the owner told me now he knows. That I’m genuine he will allow me anytime in the future to make a cash order delivery. And that I can order as many times as I like and pay by cash. The owner was very generous with the portion of food. They were so big I couldn’t finish them both 😁. Lovely tasty food. Which brings me back to my childhood memories. Burn me and the owner had a shirt conversation and I discovered he was born in Jamaica, and in the same town as me. I would highly recommend and suggest this restaurant as a place to order food....

The portion sizes were ridiculously small. I brought a large curry goat with rice, a single portion of curry goat and prawns. The large curry goat with rice had hardly any meat in it what so ever, £14 for a bowl of rice was basically what I paid for. There was loads of bones with no meat on them what so ever. I requested extra sauce for the goat and did not receive this. The ratio for the portions were just ridiculous. Such a shame because it tasted really nice. The photo is all the bone that had no meat on it, the meat hadn’t even fallen off...

The owner scheduled me to do some marketing work. I drive 55 minutes 1-way to get there and he didn’t bother showing up. Not even a courtesy call. Quite unprofessional. I ordered dinner anyway to take home to my family. The stewed and jerk chicken were amazing but the Mac & cheese was awful. It was burnt and the plastic container was melted to the food, the rices were dry not fresh. I’m a small independent business too. For me it was a loss of income, waste of fuel, and part of my meal was inedible....
