We thought we would visit after reading the reviews on here. We stumbled across the pub on google maps (despite living locally for a lifetime, we didn't know about this place).
In honesty, the building itself is not going to win any prizes for beauty or posh interiors (especially as it is in the midst of an industrial estate next to the Thames). The pub is rather dated and tired looking, but comfortable and warm. Dont let appearances fool you and put you off visiting though, it is definately a 'diamond in the rough'!
The seating area outside overlooks the Thames, so is probably a nice place to sit in the summer, with a 'ring side' view of the river- perfect for watching the ships sail by and a great start or end point for a walk to the marshes. We plan to do that when the weather is warmer!
I don't think I have ever received such a warm welcome when visiting a pub in my entire life! The ladies that work here were incredibly friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for them! They were keen to make sure the music wasn't too loud for us and offered us a tab. I ordered Ham, Egg and Chips (which came with two slices of chunky tiger bread) and my husband chose Fish and Chips which he chose to have with baked beans (there were other sides on offer such as peas and was included in the price).
We were not disappointed! The portions were huge! It was all very well cooked, the eggs were just as I like them- with runny yolks (and not at all 'snotty' on the top), with decent quality ham too.
The fish was more like a 'whale' and had a large quantity of baked beans, both plates had a mountain of chips. You definately get great value for money. If I had any criticism it would be that the bread had spread on it and not real butter (I only like butter), but that is a very, very small negative.
I had a double G&T; my husband had a pint and in total (with the two mammoth meals) it came to £27. We left feeling full and happy!
We will definately be back...
Read moreIt was our first time visiting this pub and what a pleasant surprise! The Sunday roast is delicious and portions are such a good value for money. Starters fantastic too, and good selection of beers and ciders. The view from the terrace is stunning, and if you visit in winter I am sure that you will love the interiors as well. Bathrooms are clean and the music volume was just perfect, not too low, not too high. The best part is the staff: we went with our 3 yo son, who simply cannot stay seated for more than 5 minutes and was constantly on their way (we tried our best, so sorry, ladies), but absolutely nothing seemed to be too much trouble to them, and they kept playing with him and made our Sunday lunch the best we had in a long time. We will definitely come back soon. Absolutely loved it. A big Thank you to the team and then the chef from us and the little...
Read moreWe had small 2 course roast dinner meal which was no way small. You had a choice of meat from chicken , beef or gammon. There was large Yorkshire and four large roasts potatoes on your plate. Then large bowl with swede, peas broccoli, carrots. Cabbage and cauliflower cheese was brought out with large jug of homemade gravy. With the two course you could have either starter or dessert with your main. We had the dessert, lovely sticky toffee pudding with custard. We all couldn't eat the whole main as wanted to save room for dessert well worth the money and we have booked to go again. Service was amazing lovely attentive staff nothing was too much trouble. Very enjoyable time and was welcome to stay on and continue our afternoon with wine and to finish off a...
