First let me say we have not eaten there and now after how we were treated after trying to cancel never will. My wife had booked a lunch time booking for today but after a rough night from illness thought it best to cancel the table to avoid spreading it around to other diners. To our horror we were charged £30 for doing the right thing hours before the booking so the venue had time to replace the table. The cancellation policy is highly punitive and the owners showed no common sense or pragmatism in letting such a ridiculous policy go. We require our money back forthwith. So just heads up if you need to cancel without getting stung you need to cancel 4 days ahead of your booking.

UPDATE - The Mine . Afraid that is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever come across. We gave you more than enough notice to be able to fill the table. In fact you were told before 830am that we wouldn't be able to make it, by 9am you had taken the money, in short you did not even give yourselves enough time to try and fill tthe table.

And while we all sympathise with the increasing costs, those are being suffered by all and it is not reasonable to place the burdens of an increasingly unsustainable business model on potential customers.

Furthermore we consider it can be argued that your cancellation policy could be construed as an unreasonable contractual condition. As such we require the return of our...

So first of all I’d like to start by saying me and my partner are regular customers here, unfortunately we booked to attend here this evening at 1730 however my partner had a health check yesterday and was rushed to emergency cardiology as his ecg came back abnormal there was no way for me to contact the mines to make them aware as there is no signal in the hospital and we were having such a fright it didn’t even cross my mind until I saw £60 withdrawn from my bank account from them, I emailed the mines to explain what had happened and had a very unsympathetic reply back saying they will not be reimbursing me for the missed appointment as they have a policy now I’m well aware and appreciate a policy however when it comes to regular customers who have had a genuine reason not to attend I think it’s absolutely disgusting not to reimburse! Safe to say we will never be returning here nor will any of our friends or family! And I’d advise anyone to stay well clear because if anything happens to your family member where you can’t turn up you’ll be charged! Another thing was told I’d booked twice when I certainly didn’t! So must be an error with their system somewhere! AVOID...

To clarify, you WILL need to book to get into this place. You will also need a hefty appetite.

The meals are huge, are well done and are excellent quality. It's a little pricey compared to some other restaurants, but you don't often get many places doing food like these guys.

I'd you've never been before you may struggle to find the place. It's actually down the side of a convenience store next to a pub. Once inside you'll notice it's very small, and is decorated in mining memorabilia. If you feel the urge to go bigger you will be served your meal on a (clean) shovel! It's huge!

The desserts are massive too! You can even purchase a shovel dessert spoon to remember your visit!

Highly recommended. However, just a few points:-

You WILL likely struggle a little getting from the entrance to your table if you are in a wheelchair. Moreso if the place is busy. Parking may be problematic if the street in front of the convenience store is busy. You may find yourself having to park a little further away on the street. Save plenty of room before visiting, the meals are...

After all the raving reviews we’d read we were looking forward to our meal out for my partner and I’s 5th year anniversary. We arrived and had our starters out before we even had any drinks that I had to ask for even though the three tables that came in after us got served instantly. I had the double southern fried chicken burger for main which was dry as a bone, missing the peppers and onion and I had cold chips. My partners breast of heaven burger came out and the beef burger just fell apart to a point that a spoon should have been used. It was just like fried mince. After saying my burger was dry when paying for the bill, the waitress with dyed red hair did give a free dessert. I must admit that even though service left a lot to be desired, I believe this was only due to the fact that we were unfortunate not to have the waitress with the dyed red hair as our server. Quite disappointed with the overall experience and unfortunately we won’t come again as the quality of food and service does not meet with the price of this restaurant!

Have waited so long to be able to get a table here due to its popularity and omg it was worth the wait. Food was absolutely amazing!! The burger was fantastic and was easily the nicest burger I've ever eaten. The white chocolate cheesecake was massive and I didn't think I would finish it but it was so nice I couldn't stop eating it. They had a power cut when we were in there and I take my hat off to every single member of staff in there who kept calm and made sure everyone was OK, the darkness and just the lights off the lamps on the table was actually kind of cool the kids loved it they felt like they were in a real mine 😂😂 they trusted everyone to leave and took our numbers and phoned for payment when the till was back up and running and I was more than happy to pay power cut or not, it just added to the Halloween theme 😂😂 thank you so much to everyone we will be back as soon as we can! 10 out of 10. Beautiful!!

Dig this place. Well worth a visit for a BIG feed. I felt it was pricey but 4 of us ate for £80 which included a side dish and the tip. So, not ridiculous all told (unlike the portions!). The Bombay Bad Boy was £21 plus £3 supplement for it served on a shovel. And there were more expensive burgers on the menu. The Lasagne burger was £24 without the shovel. That said, the shovel does mean larger portions. You need to have the shovel experience for it's novelty. My daughter had two butterfly chicken breast in her burger bun. Absolutely huge! And tasty to boot. I wondered if the chicken might be over cooked and dry, as is often the case, but not so. It was just right, still tender and succulent. Very quirky venue tucked away behind the Premier shop. One of the tables was a cable drum on its side. Really warm atmosphere though, and the girls serving were gems.
