We chose to have dinner here while on holiday in the area having seen all reviews to be five star but sadly we experienced the opposite end of the scale. We booked a table the previous evening and the lady we spoke to on the phone sounded really friendly and we were looking forward to visiting. As we arrived we had to wait a short while as there wasn't a table set for us despite booking a time but we could see the place was busy. After getting to our table we ordered starters (black pudding bonbons and deep fried brie) which were okay and a pub-grub standard but sadly nothing exceptional.
Food - All of our party ordered from the specials board (2x lamb and 1x chicken kebabs) save for one who ordered fish and chips. We were informed by the waiter (who was entirely pleasant throughout our time there) that there was only one lamb kebab left so we amended the order and took two chicken instead, again the waiter apologised and was pleasant. When our food arrived we were all disappointed to say the least. The chicken kebabs were simply cubed chicken threaded between pieces of red pepper and had no marinade, sauce or seasoning... simply cooked chicken. The lamb had a marinade at least but was again cubed between pieces of red pepper. Both of the kebab dishes were served with simple caterers chips, onion rings and boiled veg (carrots, butternut squash and cauliflower pieces) which seemed odd, to us at least. The chips that came with the fish and chips were cold and we asked for these to be replaced, which they were quickly. The batter on the fish was thick, doughy in the centre and didn't entirely cover the fish itself. We were asked by the lady behind the bar (I believe she was the owner) if everything was okay with the food and when we explained our issues and the reasons we hadn't ate a lot she did apologise entirely to us. A few minutes later the chef came out to our table and again he apologised entirely and accepted the errors were all his fault. I have to commend the staff's accepting of the standard. When we went to pay our bill we were told that the entire meal and drinks would be on the house, which we were taken aback by but did feel it fair. I must add that we noticed a table next to ours asking for a hamburger from their order to be replaced also.
Overall - We wanted this to be a great experience for the last night of our holiday but sadly that wasn't to be and it was a shame because the staff all seemed entirely hospitable, the location and restaurant were great but the standard of food we received was not high at all. I would loved to have written a different review here but, again, sadly that is not the case and I hope it is received by the owners in the best possible way. Unfortunately we will not be back for food here.
-Response to owners reply- I have read both your replies to my review, which is exactly the same, on TripAdvisor and here. I dispute that all of my reviews are negative because that is simply not true and anyone reading them will see that also. Yes, I have reviews of my negative experiences amongst those of which our experience at your restaurant is now one. I have been absolutely honest in the reviews and understand that negative feedback is sometimes hard to accept, evidently from your response. We acknowledged and appreciated your acceptance of the low standard of food we received on the night we attended and did offer to pay for our drinks but this was turned down. We acknowledged this and were thankful at the time. It's sad that our review has been received in such a manner but don't believe in leaving only five star reviews, the review service is there for people to have clear sight of a business. We wish you the best...
Read moreStaying in a small town, we were told it would be wiser to reserve a table, which I precisely what I did. It was confirmed for 19:30 via WhatsApp which was nice and practical not having a UK number. I was very much looking forward to this meal as the reviews were so positive. Upon our arrival, at 19:33, the only visible table remaining was set for 2 people. The waitress went to talk to the manager and then returned and started moving the small table (which barely had any space on either side) to be set for 4 people. She apologised and said it was either that or sitting outside. We had to insist a bit that we had reserved a table and then their solution was forcibly sending a whole table of seated people to the couch đ€Ż
We ordered penne with vodka sauce and smoked salmon, ribs, and lamb shank. They were all forgettable if not downright tasteless. If you google vodka sauce (and anyone who knows anything about cooking would also know this), itâs a deep orange colored creamy tomato sauce. What was served was a heavy, thick white Alfredo type cream sauce. The salmon bits were the best part but unfortunately there were only 5 small pieces to be found. The whole thing was horrendously underseasoned, the pasta overcooked (which I would expect better from an Italian chef), and there was a whole raw garlic clove mixed in. When the waitress came to ask how it was, I said not very good. She relayed the message to the manager who promptly came to investigate the situation. I explained to her the problems, and her only response was that she would have a word with the kitchen. No apology or trying to find a solution. I unfortunately cannot recommend this food to anyone who enjoys...
Read moreLooking for somewhere special to eat? Then try this hidden gem of a restaurant. It is 30 minutes from Pitlochry and 25 minutes from Blairgowrie, through beautiful countryside. This was my first time here, but it wonât be the last when Iâm next in the area. They say âgood wine, good foodâ I would say âgood wine, amazing foodâ Itâs served hot, fresh, tasty, and well presented. Debbie was so welcoming and attentive, but not intrusive and the chef was friendly too. I had booked for 3 of us to celebrate a ladyâs 85th Birthday and she was treated wonderfully with âHappy Birthdayâ through the sound system and candles lit on her dessert! The extra bonus at this restaurant is the wonderful, panoramic views. Great quality for the price. Do give it a try. Just one thing to note, there are some steps up to the restaurant and no...
