Stay clear if you don't want cold food and confrontation!
How can you give 0 stars? Because this is what the chef (also the owner) deserve for such an appalling attitude and manner in which he presented himself to my family and I. We had gone to celebrate my bothers 40th and the birth if my nephews, with my partner, my children and my mother. It started with a simple request for warm chips (as 3 of our party had cold chips) within seconds of requesting they be changed, the chef (and also co-owner) came out and scolded "which one of you is complaining about the chips!?" He then went on to tell us that the chips aren't cold, even after he tried one of the cold chips! His tone and attitude was horrible and i felt embarrassed and threatened in front of my children. My blood was boiling and my partner was fuming at his front. I came close to throwing my plate at him and walking out.
Eventually he reluctantly replaced the chips by which time the rest of my food was cold.
My partner owns her own catering business and decided to speak to the chef after we had left and his comment was "well you're not local, you're not likely to come here again anyway"
That was enough for me
I also will add that the chicken was dry and chewy. And their cabretta bread was quite stale, and their ham was clearly out of a packet and no carved.... but i wouldn't have given a bad review based on this alone.
Such a shame as the bar staff and waiter couldn't have been any nicer... to be let down by such an ignorant and rude manager; who clearly needs some further cooking lessons and a few extra lessons in customer service!

Read moreMy husband and I visit the area a few times a year and always try to pop into the Royal Oak on the way down. Coming from London where our local pubs are turning into supermarkets, luxury flats or sometimes ruined during refurbishment we value the Royal Oak more each time we visit. The last few times I have wanted to cry with happiness. The atmosphere is so cosy and we always seem to get a seat by the lovely open fire. The bitter is good and the locals are friendly. Early evening the chef sends around some free nibbles which are delicious. We've booked for dinner a few times which has been great. The food is really good pub food, this weekend they had an amazing pork pie special. The staff were great, helpful and friendly. The Royal Oak is everything we want from a...
Read moreDrove by this pub at lunchtime and it looked so nice we turned around and went back, The village of Easterton is beautiful and it just looked so inviting. On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young lady. We didnt eat, just had a relaxing drink, but looked at the menu and it all sounded very nice and the smell coming from the kitchen was amazing. The decor was traditional with a huge fire place, and very clean toilets all on one level. Parking outside and dog friendly. All in all a lovely place, we will be going...
