This was such a lovely cafe. My partner and I came up to the Lake District from London, and exhausted from the long journey we were looking for a nice spot for lunch. We happened upon this place and ordered a full meal. The exterior of the building was lovely, especially the flowers, and the interior was equally welcoming and featured a unique, beautiful wall decorated with slices of tree trunk. From start to finish, the customer service was warm, friendly, gracious, and extremely courteous. My partner enjoyed one of his favourite pizzas there, and I so enjoyed my afternoon tea with a cheddar and pickle sandwich. In particular I loved the scone, so much so that I asked the server if I could switch my cake slice with a second scone! Unfortunately they were out of scones by then (a testament to how much everyone enjoys their scones), but her eagerness to help, her graciousness, friendliness, and warmth were very appreciated and made for a lovely, positive interaction. Before we left, we made sure to thank the cooks behind the counter to ensure they knew the quality of their work was acknowledged and appreciated. We felt fully refreshed, nourished, and revitalized by the warmth and friendliness there, and went on our way. We look forward to returning there again!

The reason it may be the best tea room in the village is because it is the only tea room in the village. Reasonably priced food for the quality. Don't expect anything special, standard sandwiches and cakes, however have to agree with other reviews, the cake I had was dry. Only one gluten free option which was ginger cake, not the most popular flavour out there! Few things to watch out for especially if you are coeliac. We ordered gluten free sandwich and soup of the day. Sandwich was fine with gluten free bread, however the soup had normal croutons in it. If someone had ordered gluten free bread why would you then put croutons in the soup. I asked the waitress to check which she did and got us a new one straight away. We also had to ask for a clean tea spoon as one looked like it had been used to eat something sticky and missed being washed after. Has a good ordering system where you put a flower in a vase when you are ready to order. One member of staff however not as welcoming as the flower, felt like we were an inconvenience for them just being there, quite rude staff who took our order which at first we took personally but then we witnessed her speaking to someone else rudely. Other staff were very welcoming and accommodating.

Lovely place to stop off for a snack or a drink.. whether you've been hiking around Derwent and need a rest or out for a stroll, it's a lovely environment to relax in. I always try to pop in for a mid day sausage sandwich and a cuppa during my yearly Keswick trips. The staff have always been very welcoming and supportive and it's been a genuinely nice place to watch the weather go by.. I've only been in at Christmas time, and it's very tastefully festive.. enjoy every visit

A little confusing to customers how this place operates. It's not a waiting service yet there's only a small handwritten note on each table saying "choose what you want from the menu and then order and pay at the till". I think it would be better if this was shown on a big sign near the entrance. Better still implement a waiting service.

Wooden tables not high enough to get my legs under. I'm 6'5". Slate floor makes the tables uneven. My plastic menu was falling apart.

I only had a black coffee and chocolate & coconut cake, which was nice.

Seems like a strange place as the covered cakes near the entrance give the impression of self-service, but it's not that type of place either.

I think people either want to grab a tray and serve themselves and pay at a till or have a waiting service but not how this...
