I recently had the opportunity to visit The Crooked Billet, and I must say that my overall impressions were positive. Here's a breakdown of my experience at this pub:
Atmosphere and Seating: The pub boasts a pleasant ambiance, especially with its good outdoor seating options. The area surrounding the pub is peaceful, creating a relaxed environment for enjoying a drink or a meal. It's an ideal spot if you're looking for a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Staff: The bar staff were friendly and welcoming, which added to the positive atmosphere. They provided attentive service and were knowledgeable about the drink options available. Their warm demeanor contributed to a pleasant experience overall.
Drink Prices: I found the drink prices at The Crooked Billet to be reasonable and in line with my expectations for a pub in the area. It's always reassuring when the prices match the quality and atmosphere of the establishment.
Food: Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to try the food during my visit, but based on my positive experience with the other aspects of the pub, I'm inclined to return and give it a try in the future. I have high hopes that the food will be of the same quality and meet my expectations.
In conclusion, The Crooked Billet is a nice pub located in a peaceful area, offering good outdoor seating and a friendly bar staff. The drink prices are fair, making it a worthwhile visit if you happen to be in the area. While I didn't sample the food on this occasion, I plan to return in the future to give it a try based on the overall positive experience I had. I can confidently say that The Crooked Billet is a good pub that is worth considering for a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad an issue with them bringing out one of our meals ( a chicken caesar salad ) it contained no chicken.. we appointed the issue and waited around 15 minutes for a new one, by that time everyone else had finished meals so we asked for the salad to be boxed up to take away, the young lady that dealt with this was very attentive and polite, we were then offered 50% off the salad. We then arrived home only to realise the chicken salad contained anchovies, we was unaware of this when ordering as itās not stated on the menu, we proceeded to call them as the individual it was for is allergic to fish (a fairly new allergy) Spoke to the same young lady who was very apologetic and asked if we could come back down for a full refund of the salad and they would then make a new one (not containing fish) this was dealt with very promptly and again she was apologetic as was we as we didnāt realise it came with fish so there fore did not feel the need to advise there was an allergy. As we was leaving the presumed āownerā abruptly approached us in the beer garden, asking if we was to return that we stated that there was an allergy as fish is often cooked in the kitchen, we agreed that was fine but it was not on the menu that it contained fish. He was not apologetic at all and very rude, considering it was there mistake to begin with and he made us to feel as if it was our fault! Will not be returning due to that, I will stick the high quality service I receive at the Three Locks in...

Took us over 3 hours to get served 3 courses. Staff seemed more concerned with just wandering around aimlessly rather than serving. They would walk past your table, see it filled with empty plates and glasses and still wait for you to specifically ask them to clear away plates and refill drinks. The 'Manager' seemed like a clueless buffoon, again more concerned with standing at the bar chatting rather than actually running his restaurant.
Now the food - it was equally bad. Vegetables hard and bland. My leg of lamb was awful, well undercooked, had to prise it off the bone. Foir pudding i ordered sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream - the pudding was cold and pretty much stale. And the scallops for starter - well it's hard to mess up scallops, unless you undercook them.
All in all, a really awful experience. Clearly they couldn't cope with the demand (and it wasn't that busy) but seemed to think everything was absolutely fine. If that's the sort of food you think is 'fine' then I truly despair. A hsame as the place looks nioce, had nice wine and a nice fire. But the cook and front of house manager need to take a look at themselves as they did their jobs very badly.
Also - my wife ordered a burger, and got a burger in a...
