This is my second time at Coworth Park for afternoon tea. I booked the festive tea so we could experience the carol singers. Sadly the entire experience was quite bland and disappointing. This is the second restaurant this Christmas where we have had to wait for our table beyond our reservation time. The layout of the drawing room is all wrong and they haven't made the best use of the space. My partner was basically looking at a closed door for the two hours. If he wanted a view of the tree or pianist he had to turn around and have his back to me. It would have made more sense for the huge tree to have been placed where we were sat and our table to be where the tree was. The room itself is very bland with minimal artwork and a poor layout of furniture. Another reason I chose coworth was for the fireplaces. Neither were on during our tea and we're blocked by seats so could not be seen. This adds to the cosiness but sadly were not in use. The carol singers would pass from room to room which was not really ideal and appeared very messy. The pianist was playing but with many many breaks so it seemed like he was only there for a short period of the tea. The food itself was ok, I've been to Dorchester and the sandwiches are much better. The fillings were bland and not tasty at all. We had booked a champagne tea. We were half way through our food and I realised that we had not been offered the champagne so I had to ask for it. As for the tea, most places leave the teapot on the table so you can refill your cup but the waitress put it on another table. We had to wait ages to get her attention and by the time she refilled my cup it was almost cold. It was a very disappointing experience and my partner and I both agreed that we will not return. We have many choices in this area and I chose coworth due to the good experience we had last year. Sadly it has changed this year and I will choose another venue for my next afternoon tea. The standard has slipped considerably and I think it was a waste of money. I also think that the afternoon tea trays are not practical, the waitress put ours in the middle of the table and I could not see my partner so...
Read moreOn booking my festive afternoon tea I explained that I did not want the champagne. My request was granted and I was offered soft drinks. This was confirmed by telephone conversation. On arrival and at our table with my family I was told that I had to have the champagne because I had booked the festive afternoon tea. I felt very embarrassed, especially when the manager was called over. I explained that on booking my festive afternoon tea I was told that I could request soft drinks instead. In the end they let my family and I order fruit juices, coffee beer and tea! My tea was also cold, my first cup had bits of tea swimming around, my second cup was also cold. I do like extra milk, but the tea was cold before hand. I agree with another reviewer that the decoration was very poor. We did not have carol singers only the pianist. The sandwiches were ok but not as good as they used to be. Our left overs were bagged up nicely but our scones were missing! I have also been coming here for several years. I’m afraid I shall not be...
Read moreEverything we ordered was either under-seasoned or overly salted, with no balance in between. Service was also disappointing. One person asked for their sandwich toasted, but it arrived cold. They left butter on the table for 20 minutes without giving us any bread, and the soup—advertised on the menu as being served with bread—arrived without it. Our reservation was for 7:30pm, yet by 8:10pm, the only thing on our table was butter… with nothing to spread it on. Overall, the most mediocre experience at a...
