What a delight!

Gower isn't the easiest of places to find pubs so it was a real treat to find this one, open and welcoming on August Bank Holiday Tuesday. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the building had been prepared with anti Covid measures in an effective but efficient way. We sat inside ( the bar had been recently modernised in an attractive way which hadn't obliterated the character of the pub) but outside there was also a marquee and a beautifully constructed wooden area where a large family could sit in the sunshine.

The choice of food on offer was large and varied, and I particularly enjoyed the local cockles! I then had the fish and chips ( delicious) while my husband and son both thoroughly enjoyed the lamb burgers. The puddings were excellent too. I liked the way all portions were generous but not over big, so that we left satisfied but not bloated!

Even more importantly, the beer was too notch.

I would definitely recommend The Welcome and look forward to...

Update to my original review:

We live nearby and our family of four visited on Thursday 5th September. We ordered from the menu and paid at 7.10 p.m. At 8.26 p.m. our food started to arrive. that's a 1 hour and 16 minutes wait.

To make it worse, after one hour when I enquired as to the whereabouts of our order, the bar staff told me they hadn't realised the restaurant was so full.

I won't be going again...

This is a nice family pub kitchen in Gower. The location is pleasant, the food is very good, well cooked fresh ingredients, nicely served. The staff are pleasant and friendly. Overall, a well rounded experience, to be recommended.

The chalk board outside the pub has a rather crass and inappropriately worded request to be kind to staff, which is out of context with the 'family context'. I wouldn't want my kids to see it and would suggest its removal would enhance the otherwise...

Booked a table here ,in the bar for added atmosphere. When we arrived no table available in bar over booked . Fair play offered a free drink which I insisted was upgraded to a bottle of wine . Table upstairs ok . Ordered food . Table became available moved to bar , excellent. 45 mins later asked when we were likely to be fed ! Staff running round like headless chickens . Eventually food arrived . Extremely under whelmed . Chillie was very watery , ribs overheated more than likely microwaved , Coleslaw was mainly fluid , wouldn’t have bothered serving it . The steak was well cooked the only decent thing on all 3 plates. The double cooked chips to be honest tasted like oven chips . If I’d known would have stayed home and cooked myself . Having worked in this industry for 13 years , I was appalled by the lack of any respect for the paying customer . We will not be paying...

Visited for afternoon tea as my wife won a competition on the local radio. We were pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a place. The establishment appears to have been modernised recently and were were not expecting such a contemporary feel, but it worked very well. Very few people there during the day, but I imagine that is a different story in the evening. First class service from the young chap working that day. We had the upstairs to ourselves and were a little disappointed when we saw the amount of food offered for afternoon tea. However, this was unfounded as it was easily enough, although I would have preferred more sandwiches and less cake. Would definitely recommend and will be looking to pay a visit in the evening for a meal.

On arrival we were greated with a beautiful view of standing stones and a distant shoreline. On going straight into the pub, there was a good atmosphere with lots of locals and a proper pub vibe. The service was very prompt and friendly and the food was good portions, well presented and delicious. If I was going to be critical, don't stray from the norm too much on desserts, the chocolate walnut brownie was lovely, the other two Italian style desserts didn't go down too well, a frozen gelato cake and a coffee icecream. Great local pub, great food, definitely would come back again and recommend. :)
