Oh my gosh, the BEST Thai food!
Not only a lovely pub, warm, welcoming, super friendly atmosphere but the most incredible and authentic Thai food. The menu is extensive, very reasonably priced and in my humble opinion better quality food than many Thai restaurants.
Everything is made in house by the Thai chef, so, for example, the Thai fishcakes are so fresh and delicious unlike the rubbery texture that is often served elsewhere. They also have a daily specials menu which is such good value.
We lived in SE Asia for 35 years and travelled extensively in Thailand and the food at the Barley Mow is as good. I highly, highly recommended a visit, truly excellent. I think we have now found our new favourite place to eat!
For those with families who have children that are nervous of Thai food /spicy food, there is a limited menu of typical pub fare - fish and chips, sausages and mash etc. Which can all be made into a smaller child size portion. As well, we have a child with a severe peanut allergy, normally going to Thai restaurants makes us extremely nervous due to the fact that there is a lot of peanut used in Thai food, but we spoke to the manager about it and she was extremely accommodating, and so nothing on our table has peanuts on it/in it, and whilst my daughter with the allergy ordered fish and chips she tried all the Thai dishes we ordered...
Read moreAbsolutely Poor Show, we have been using this restaurant for years and this was the last straw for us. With an item missed from our takeaway totally ruined our evening meal after a busy work week. The standard of the food has going downhill and is now very poor indeed, soggy crispy chicken, (sauce normally separate) tough chewy beef with more onion every visit, lumpy rice, even our neighbours have stopped going here, such a shame especially when we make the journey because it was so good in the past. No offer of a refund or a way of resolving the problem... The menu is now in the bin!
Miki if you had read my review you will of seen I mentioned the quality of the food has been going down hill on not only our meal but friends and neighbours, but we kept saying to them maybe it was just a one off and sticking up for the food and service, The refund was NOT offered just an apology that you were training staff... it was myself that had to ask for the refund after having to discuss the situation the phone for 15 minutes our meal was ruined (and our journey to you - we liked the restaurant that much we used to travel to you) what is the use of having crispy duck without pancakes and hoisin...
Read moreOn entering the pub… not much of an atmosphere, booked a table as a couple & were the only people in there, service was good & very friendly … both starters were great, main meal for me left a lot to be desired … it was sitting under a hot plate for at least 10 minutes while a takeaway was being prepared & other as I could see what was happening through to the kitchen. The egg noodles nice tasty & hot, the Crispy Thai Chicken was “Near Cold Not Crispy & unfortunately well over cooked which made it very Dry, Hard & tough to eat so I left most of it on the plate .. wife’s main good with no complaints. Did speak to the waitress about the chicken but unfortunately no explanation came back from the kitchen or management & were clearly not bothered. Would I go there again ?!...
