We have been here several times and had always found the pub warm and welcoming before but last night was very unwelcoming. We turned up around 7pm, waited and asked for a table for dinner, the lady we spoke to was rude unwelcoming and said for two and walked away and we stood waiting for 5 minutes before she abruptly walked us over to a table put the menus on the table and told us to order at the bar. We have eaten here before and had table service so not sure why we weren’t sat in the restaurant as when going to the toilet there was plenty of room. When ordering at the bar the same lady that sat us at our table asked a new team member to serve us who said she doesn’t want to! We had the breads and olives to start, the bread was cold and stale and the olives were not fresh, something that used to be enjoyable when ordered before. For mains we had fish and chips and a burger and chips, the fish was completely tasteless, I tried to ask at the bar for lemon to go with the fish but after a while waiting and being ignored I gave up. Burger wasn’t the best and chips on both weren’t hot. For desert we had the cookies and ice cream, cookies tasted like they’d come from the marked down section in Sainsbury’s, and rhubarb strawberry crumble, very disappointing, completely tasteless was nothing like a crumble with the tiniest sprinkle of granola on top of tasteless fruit with a side of overcooked custard with skin on top. To drink we had 2 beers which was probably the only thing that was nice and an amaretto sour which tasted awful and definitely not made correctly. When going to pay we waited at the bar for a while and when the gentleman behind the bar said to the same lady can you serve this gentleman she responded with oh he probably just wants to pay and carried on doing what she was doing. Not once did anyone check how the food was or welcome us. Really disappointed in wasting so much money for average tasteless food and...
Read moreThe White Hart in Pirbright is everything you could want from a traditional English village pub — and then some. Nestled right in the heart of this charming little village, it’s the kind of place that instantly feels welcoming, whether you’re popping in for a quiet pint, a hearty Sunday lunch, or a family gathering.
The moment you step through the door, you’re greeted with that perfect pub atmosphere: a crackling fire in winter, warm lighting, and a friendly buzz from locals and visitors alike. The staff are genuinely lovely — attentive, smiling, and always happy to recommend something from the menu or the excellent drinks list.
The food is consistently top-notch. Their Sunday roasts are a standout — beautifully cooked meat, crispy roast potatoes, and Yorkshire puddings that are worth the trip alone. During the week, the menu offers plenty of choice, from classic pub favourites like fish and chips and burgers to more refined seasonal dishes. Everything is fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care.
The drinks selection is just as impressive, with a great range of beers, quality wines, and a few special gins that make it easy to linger a little longer. In summer, the outdoor seating area is a real highlight — perfect for a lazy afternoon watching village life go by.
What really makes The White Hart special, though, is its genuine community spirit. It’s not just a place to eat or drink — it’s a cornerstone of Pirbright life. You can tell the team truly cares about making everyone feel at home, and it shows in every detail.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through Surrey, The White Hart is an absolute must-visit. A proper English pub, done...
Read moreWe booked for lunch yesterday & after a delay we were shown to our table. We then waited for around twenty minutes for someone to take a drink order & before the drinks arrived we were asked to place our food order! Drinks finally arrived about 30 minutes after sitting down, swiftly followed by our starters. Just minutes after our starters arrived so did our main course, but as we had just had minutes to eat our starters the young waitress took the mains away again. Starters were removed & four plates of dried up looking food arrived ( having been kept under a heat lamp , which the young waitress admitted.) I had asked for rare beef but the beef was brown & over cooked. When I asked for it to be replaced with some rare beef that request was refused as I was told they “ don’t serve rare beef!” Looking at other diners plates & photos on their website I know this is NOT the case! When we pointed out that we had been waiting a long time for drink orders etc to be taken we were told that the long waiting time was due to staff shortages! Would I return? NO! I have visited before & the waiting time to be served again was ridiculously long, but for me to be denied the food that I had ordered & to be told an untruth as obviously the chef couldn’t be bothered to actually produce what had been ordered was for me the last straw. We didn’t complain yesterday as we were celebrating a belated birthday & therefore didn’t want to spoil the day, but also we felt it was unfair on the young waitress who were very pleasant & just trying to...
