We came to Fifty Five cafe today (Sunday 10th Nov) as we were meeting friends, who have been here before. However turns out our friends have really only had drinks and snacks, never hot food. Unfortunately it missed the mark in many ways.

Let me start off with the positives though. Decent parking, nice big windows, clean interior and the play park is great for kids and families.

Unfortunately everything else was not good. Firstly, I went to order and one staff member was kneeling down sorting out something, she saw me but didn't bother to say "hello, wait a minute please". Awkward silence instead her colleague (who was busy making a coffee at the time) saw me waiting for a while and asked her colleague to serve me. Its was frosty customer service all round.

I asked for Scrambled eggs on toast, and i specifically asked how many eggs would be in it. As I wanted to know whether to add in anything else. I was told three eggs, but I still ordered beans and mushrooms. Staff member unable to add this into the till. The other staff member goes to help. However she adds in bacon. Luckily I was listening in and got that corrected. However what was very odd was when it came out it was tiny portions. Put it like this- If you can fit mushrooms and Scrambled eggs on ONE slice of toast, it's fair to say, it isn't 3 eggs. Instead they did a silly cost saving thing. I believe they reduced the number of eggs, because I'd ordered the beans and mushrooms. This means I got less than I paid for, since the beans and mushrooms were additional items I added in.

What is worse - the cook decided to drizzle brown sauce all around the plate. Really odd and not necessary. This put me off as I hate brown sauce. And no, this wasn't mentioned on the menu. Everyone at our table thought it was very weird.

Somebody on our table had fish finger sandwich and were not happy with the huge amount of capers added in. Again, this wasn't mentioned on the menu.

Somebody else has the sausage Cob - comes with chilli jam. But that was not jam at all. It was basically tomato puree with some chilli powder added. Chilli jam is completely different and this was a poor substitute

I want to express how disappointed we were. I really hope fifty five takes on board this feedback. As it's a nice place, but there's just too many thing wrong with it at the moment. And there's so many other...

I am editing this review that I placed a while ago as I went this morning for breakfast. I can only say I was met by a young lady who was courteous but short on greeting. I ordered an extra hot latte and a bacon roll and was immediately asked where I was sitting but I didn’t know where I was sitting because I hadn’t been there for a long time so I had to choose a table very quickly. most people felt the same. I heard lots of people saying the same thing. I don’t know where I’m sitting I haven’t chosen yet this needs to be addressed. I feel the atmosphere of the place is very loud in terms of noise and I could hear lots of people’s conversations which is not great. It needs softening with some plants or dressing. My breakfast came The quality of the bacon was greatout, but I still hadn’t had my coffee which came afterwards and was definitely not hot or even extra hot. Also, the bacon was smoked which I was not told of. I don’t mind that but some people may.

I am sorry to say, I won’t be returning as it was too overwhelming for me in terms of noise and service.

When I left, I saw the waitress who had served me throwing her hands in the air and talking to the manager in not a good way.

I stayed for the whole of 20 minutes which was 10 minutes to eat my breakfast and coffee .

I am so sorry to write this, but this definitely all...

Terrible and not worth it. I, my wife and two children (aged 1 and 2) came in to eat at approx 12pm. We often come to the park with the children and thought we'd stop to have some lunch. How very disappointing but expected to be honest. Firstly the full large english breakfast took almost 30 mins to arrive and so i thought it was cooked fresh and would be piping hot.....nooooo..it was mildly warm at best! And very under seasoned and bland and very overcooked! Flash fried to me. At over £15 you'd have thought Gorden Ramsey cooked it. Awful. Next my wife's wrap of some sort was completely bland and had no seasoning, again awful. Spent over £45 on simple basic food and wish I hadn't bothered. We know for next time....just go to the park and NOT the cafe. Shame as it could have the potential if managed correctly with real experienced leadership to be good but I'd be very surprised if it's still going after another year or so with the terrible quality of food and it's prices. However that said there are lots of other cafes and eateries nearby that servce hot, tasty food at cheaper prices. The best part was the park, nice for the kids. Best of...

Super-friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere too. Service is great with thorough attention to the needs of a sensitive coeliac (GF) like me. I'm not a frequent customer by any means, but it's so nice to be greeted like a regular friend. Food is EXCEPTIONAL!!! I've previously "played safe" with my choices but this time I tried something new; Turkish Eggs with harissa sauce, chickpeas and yogurt, served with rustic GF toast. It was SPECTACULAR and I'm over the moon to have had my (narrow) horizons widened. The place itself is beautifully done out, with thoughtful, tasteful, but not in-your-face Christian inspired artwork. The lighting is gorgeous too; no brain-jarring blue/white LEDs in sight. Just warm and welcoming lights of various kinds. Today was a special visit as I was having lunch with my wife so we felt like it was a "date night" but during the day. It was also great to see Josh back again after a very poorly spell. See you all soon. xx PS: Gluten Free Bakewell Brownies (and the Matcha variety) are sent from Heaven itself. Unbelievable creations.

*** EDIT: I've been back a few times since my review and it just gets better and better. I love this place! And you have clotted cream for the scones now. *** We loved the cosy, laid-back atmosphere within the cafè. The entrance is quite confusing, we watched 3 separate people get lost trying to find the door, even though it has an entrance sign outside, it is still confusing. Ample parking. Price wise, I found it to be on the pricey side - I've had to knock a star off because they had beautiful fresh scones with butter and jam - but no clotted or fresh cream! The coffees are lovely, they come in a huge mug which is great. The vegan French toast sadly wasn't impressive, it was nice, but so expensive considering it looked like toast with compote on. Overall I really liked it here and I will definitely visit again, the staff are lovely and so is the atmosphere. Please get some clotted cream for the scones! :)
