After a good walk we went for an all day breakfast here, 3 adults and 1 toddler, we ordered 2 regular breakfasts a toasted sausage sandwich pot of tea for two and a kids chips 25 quid round figures.
The tea pot arrived with the milk spoons and saucers...... no cups on the saucers? Ok bit odd but thats fine we asked for our cups to put our tea in and we did get them so that was a bonus, nice hot cuppa at last to wet the pallet before the English brekkies arrived.
After a few minutes we decided to move tables for a couple of reasons, firstly the varnish on our table was very sticky and it was not to nice to sit at when your tea pot cant be removed from the table and secondly the door doesn't self shut and I would say that 90% of the people coming and going were clearly born in a barn and failed to close the door on entering or exiting the establishment causing a nice cold wind to solidify the varnish on the table.
Anyway now seated at a decent non sticky table away from the front door we were getting real hungry.. after a bit of a wait the food finally arrived, and we were starving at this point.... one little sausage, one little egg, one skinny slither of bacon and a little pot of lava (beans at 9000 centigrade) on the side I had ordered a fried slice as well as my toast (toast had to be requested as the fried slice took its place) paid extra for the slice and lost the free toast... story fits with saucers and no cups as a now continued trend.
Anyway I use the term toast loosely, it looked like toast at least but it was like cold stale bread that was brown and dry and was so stiff to eat that it failed to mop up the plate after... not very English if you cant mop up after!
Same was said about the bread that was used for the sausage sandwich dry and stale.
Chips were ok...
Read moreWe have known Richard, the proprietor for some years, since he operated out of Badshot Lea. We used to go there with an aged relative, because of ease of access, good, simple food, and the friendly staff and ambience. This was only our second or third visit since he moved to Church Crookham, and we were delighted to find the same, familiar quality here. It was quiet when we arrived, but several families came in while we were enjoying our omelette meals. The cold cabinet of cakes looked very familiar and appetizing, but we'll save that for our next visit. Thanks Richard. Very much recommended. Car park has been resurfaced, but there is an ominous sign about parking restrictions. Not sure if they really apply, but no wish to...
Read moreThank you so much to Poppys. We have just had our works Christmas meal here, twenty four of us all having the christmas menu. What an amazing job they done. Cherylin (sorry if spelling was wrong!) was so attentive taking all of our drinks orders and dealing with 24 demanding tradesmen! Then Laura, the chef, what a marvellous job she done cooking 24 Christmas meals and finally to Rich who helped me organise, provided raffle hampers and also served our food. How they done it, I do not know, but I would highly recommend Poppys, for a breakfast, quick lunch or a meal. Brilliant staff, gorgeous food...lobe it here. Thanks to you all from myself and...
