Better than expected...I have driven past this pub loads of times, did not go in because it look tired, run down and never looked open. However, popped in and it has new management and you can see the difference immediately. Clean, fresh and tidy. They should advertise out front about the nice beer garden at the rear, not huge, but nice. When we where there, there was various people with dogs. Some where on leads and others were not and it resulted in a dog fight, not serious, but not nice. I don't like the fact that (like most pubs), you have to walk through all the smokers to get to the garden. There are lots of signs in regards to hygiene in regards to Covid 19 and plenty of hand gel dotted around. It's a shame that some people just ignore the signs. There is a sign near the smoking area stating don't congregate, smokers were leaning and drinking and blocking the entrance to the garden and we had to squeeze past them. People also disregarded one of the seats in the smoking area which was clearly marked, not for use and people were sitting on it. I think if the landlords go to all this effort, then people should have the decency to follow the guidelines and if not, the landlords should say something. Would I go back again ? Yes, but I'd like to see some enforcement on what is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSeeing the last review I was shocked!. Was going to avoid but thought we would check it out for ourselves on the way to Reading.. New chef! Although never ate before so cant comment on the food before.. She was helping deliver food to keep customers served quickly, and how nice to have your food delivered by the person that cooked it!.. Also, a short bald man( as mentioned in a recent review) isn't an owner so I guess he was probably helping out.. we all we need a helping hand in these trying times and if it was the gentleman I met, he was lovely!.. The food was lovely and certainly not over priced, especially when its home made and large portions! Lovely owner and although busy we were very well taken care of. Being a pub owner, I feel the White Hart is doing a great job, especially in these trying times!.. Ive not been brave enough tp open until May!! I had the curry (all home made, like a tikka) and my partner had the home made chicken burger (a whole chicken breast cooked from fresh!.. I wish the owners well and we will definitely be back! Keep going, you are doing a great job and a great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have visited the white hart three times, the first time was around five years ago when it was under previous management, I did not plan to have a repeat visit.
A friend heard they had new managers and so arranged a meal for a celebration. I was delighted at the change.
The staff are welcoming and polite. The food was lovely, we ended up having three courses. Portions are generous as well.
I enjoyed the evening so much that the following week I went back with my husband for lunch off the light bites menu. The service and food was just as fantastic the second time.
The only downside is that it is not as busy as it should be! I urge you to visit you will not be disappointed.
Lastly any other reviews you see that mention how dark the pub is seem to completely over look the age of the building. It has low ceilings (at a little over 6' tall I can attest to this) and there is original bare brick and dark oak beams. But a building if that age is not easily modernised and rightly so.
Thank you ladies for two lovely visits, I shall be trying hard not to visit too often, lest my...
