For customers: Walking around the leafy surrounding area is a delight and helps spark curiosity. The cafe is located in the renovated stables and sets the perfect scene for a nice cream tea and escape from the weather. Unfortunately, the scones were very dry and crumbly and the cream/jam was not well portioned for the size of the scone. Perhaps it is the recipe, but I get the impression that the scones were past their best despite what the staff said given their state. The sausage rolls are very tasty and the homemade sauce was the highlight however the portion was very small, only half a sausage roll for £5. The location is the best part but I think the atmosphere is lacking, possibly due to the overpriced options turning people off.
For owners: You have done an excellent job with the presentation of the stables and your staff are very friendly. Only suggestion (albeit from a customer) would be to reassess the menu options and try some variations in recipes. You have some delicious elements (homemade sauces, jams) but it’s being let down by the main items - dry/crumbly scones and poorly priced hot food. Good luck and I genuinely wish you all the best given the work you...
Read more5 stars all round! My wife and I had an afternoon tea and it was superb! I phoned 2 days prior to book, and the member of staff on the phone was extremely helpful and easy to talk to, answering all my questions regarding the booking.
The afternoon tea itself was great, with plenty of savoury and sweet treats to get through. The highlight being the home made scones, with cream and jam. Everything was fresh and delicious. We couldn't finish all the cakes so took the rest home in a box to enjoy later.
The staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough for us. They checked on us regularly, but in a non intrusive way, making sure we were happy throughout. The setting was also very comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. On top of this, you get your parking paid for you too, so we had a nice stroll around the grounds before leaving.
I cannot recommend the afternoon tea enough, or even dropping in to get a hot drink or cake, as we have done so many times in the past. Thank you so much for such a great time, the perfect little treat to celebrate our wedding...
Read moreWhen I was a teenager I worked in a cafe that sold paninis. We had a panini press that would grill them, cook the inside, and leave them a third of the height and crispy - as a panini should be.
I ordered a panini here and was presented with something that had not been pressed at all, just placed in an oven like the ones you see at subway. The inside was cold and the bread wasn't crispy. I asked for it to be redone as it was cold inside, not realising at that point that they didn't have a press.
When it was brought back over to me it looked exactly the same and was still cold inside. The lady wasn't apologetic and almost seemed annoyed, and told me that they couldn't heat it any more without burning it. Maybe that's because you don't have the required equipment to sell paninis?
When I was there I witnessed someone else sending a toastie back for the same reason.
I didn't eat the panini as it was still cold, and lukewarm tuna doesn't full me with confidence that it's not going to make me ill.
I won't...
