I'd be very weary of coming in here if you are Asian or Oriental. I think some of the staff members (one man cleaning tables in particular) have tourist fatigue. My family came in to spend an hour before the next train and my 11 year old autistic son went to ask for directions to the toilets. He misunderstood the instructions and ended up near the kitchen and my older son went to redirect him to the right place. The response from the male waiter to me was a raised voice "I TOLD him, it was out the way on the left". That was completely uncalled for. As we stood to leave, both my sons went to clear up the table and place all the rubbish in the bin but the same male waiter (despite doing his job for him) kept muttering under his breath "for gods sake" and practically shoved the children out the way to get to the table. It was clear to me that his exasperation and impatient didnt extend to the white children who were playing by the counter because he was all smiles and even joined in their game. I get that this place gets extremely busy with tourists and some may come across rude but racism and bigotry is completely uncalled for. It was a shame as the food was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed the quirkiness of the place. Just very uncomfortable stay because of one...
Read moreSadly this was probably the worst brunch I've ever had! First disappointment: The website advertises an 'all day breakfast served 9.00-15.00'. when I asked I was told 'we stopped doing those a long time ago'. Next the food is served in 'environmentally friendly' plastic cups, cardboard cartons with wooden knives and forks, which you might reasonably expect would be recyclable. There were separate bins but the only items recycled were glass bottles and plastic, all the other food containers and wooden items and including much of the plastic cups went into the general waste which would of course go into landfill. Very disappointing! The breakfast Babs we ordered appeared promptly but the buns were soggy, and the eggs overcooked and looked as if they'd been waiting around for a while. Not appetising at all. The tea was okay thanks for that. It is a shame I cannot recommend the food in the Station Tearooms when many international visitors come to this top class heritage railway. There are too many tables squashed into the available space, and I'm sorry to say our table was sticky. I was very disappointed, am unable to recommend it and will not be...
Read moreI went there today with my family. Was extremely disappointed. The floor had so many crumbs and pieces of egg, and it made its way onto the chairs. The staff did not bother to clean it! The crumbs on the table were dusted onto the floor. My sister asked for a brown-breaded baguette and she got white. Staff obviously seem to make up thier own mind about what there customers should eat! The food was okay, however the burger my mum and I ate had an awful lot of onions- more than the cheese itself! I didn’t finish it, nor the rest of my food. My sisters baguette was meant to be BBQ, for some reason they cut too far into it and it was oozing out 😣. They also added butter. Neither me nor my sister finished our food. The worst thing about this place is that I saw a family come in, and the mother cleared the table herself so that she and her children could sit down. The flies would also not go away (probably because they don’t seem to own a hoover).
I rate this 1/5 stars for its unsanitary areas, poor service, and generally not very good food. Will never come here...
