Took my partner here today as it was his birthday, read all of the rave reviews and saw the menu had lots of delicious food to offer, so we set off on the 25 mile journey. We arrived at lunch time, sat down, to be told by two other customers to 'shut the door!' We did, not realising that we had left it open, but the door did not fully close, leaving a large gap. 'That's it, it doesn't close any more!' said the woman, leaving my 75 year old partner feeling like a little boy that had just been told off. It's a 'cosy' little place, one of the waitresses was lying and scrawming around on the toilet floor next to one of the two remaining tables, so we sat on the other one by the door. We soon felt the full force of the gale coming in through the door so decided to move to the toilet table. Still feeling the Arctic blast (beginning of December) I went to see if the door would close properly, and when I removed the offending door catch and closed the door, I was told by the waitress 'It needs to be left open!' No explanation as to why, so feeling that we weren't going to have a convivial birthday lunch in a cosy cafe, but one in a bad tempered wind tunnel that should state that you need to be wearing the full complement of the Damart catalogue before you sit down to...

Wow what an amazing little cafe. Firstly the welcome you get is awesome. Placing an order was quick and the young lady even up sells which is a great quality. There was a delay in getting food BUT we were told that when ordering. Drinks came out quickly and then the bacon and egg roll was served.
Keep your Michelin star restaurants because cafes like this serve you food you actually want to eat. So thank you to the chef or cook or person who cooks it.
Staff are friendly and engaging even whilst eating their own lunch. Who knew corn beef hash was even a thing. I think she was surprised when we asked where we were but once finished laughing explained, so thank you.
Finally, the toilet is clean and um needs to be experienced. Bring your finest bird knowledge and identify the sounds and songs of local birds whilst …… well simply washing ur hands.
Thanks all for a great experience

Read moreGreat place! I've driven past it many times but decided to call in when walking along the Sett Valley Trail. It was mid-morning so a selection of local mums taking their children for a walk, and a few older walkers. We had coffee and cookies and sat down inside. There are only a few tables inside the cafe but there are several outside. The coffee was from a local source in Furness Vale and is available in all forms plus syrups. What I liked was the friendly atmosphere; cheerful staff, laughter of children and chatty mums, not the sort of place you see in bigger towns and cities. Everything was clean and tidy, and a good menu aimed at walkers. Very...
