Took my partner here today as it was his birthday, read all of the rave reviews and saw the menu had lots of delicious food to offer, so we set off on the 25 mile journey. We arrived at lunch time, sat down, to be told by two other customers to 'shut the door!' We did, not realising that we had left it open, but the door did not fully close, leaving a large gap. 'That's it, it doesn't close any more!' said the woman, leaving my 75 year old partner feeling like a little boy that had just been told off. It's a 'cosy' little place, one of the waitresses was lying and scrawming around on the toilet floor next to one of the two remaining tables, so we sat on the other one by the door. We soon felt the full force of the gale coming in through the door so decided to move to the toilet table. Still feeling the Arctic blast (beginning of December) I went to see if the door would close properly, and when I removed the offending door catch and closed the door, I was told by the waitress 'It needs to be left open!' No explanation as to why, so feeling that we weren't going to have a convivial birthday lunch in a cosy cafe, but one in a bad tempered wind tunnel that should state that you need to be wearing the full complement of the Damart catalogue before you sit down to dine, we left.
