An Absolutely Outstanding Experience at The Refreshment Room! My recent visit to The Refreshment Room at Millers Dale - Buxton was truly exceptional, not just for the delicious food, but for the incredible kindness and helpfulness of the lady who I spoke to over the phone.
We enjoyed a fantastic meal – the food was great and perfectly hit the spot after our walk. However, the real highlight of our visit came after we had already left. My grandfather, unfortunately, realized he had left his glasses in the disabled toilet, and we were already a considerable distance from Buxton, having arrived back home.
In a bit of a panic, we contacted The Refreshment Room by phone, explaining our predicament. To our immense relief and gratitude, the lady we spoke to immediately understood the situation. She went above and beyond, promptly finding the glasses, and reassuring us that they were safe with her. What truly touched us was her willingness to then happily post them back to us. This act of genuine generosity saved us a very long and inconvenient journey back.
This lady is truly a gem, and her helpfulness and kindness are a testament to the wonderful people still out there in the world. We are incredibly thankful for her thoughtful assistance. I sincerely hope The Refreshment Room continues to thrive and receives all the success it deserves. It's local businesses like this, run by such compassionate individuals, that truly make a difference. We can't recommend it...

We visited The Refreshment Room in Millers Dale last week with our family, including my 89-year-old grandfather. The setting was beautiful, the refreshments delightful, and the atmosphere welcoming — a perfect countryside stop during our day out near Buxton.
After returning home (quite a distance away), we realised that my grandfather had accidentally left his glasses behind at the café. He was very worried, and we weren’t sure how to go about retrieving them.
I decided to call the number listed on Google Maps, and that’s when we encountered the true kindness and humanity behind this wonderful place. A lovely lady named Rachel answered the phone, took the time to look for the glasses herself, found them, and – without hesitation – offered to post them back to us. She even refused to accept any payment for the postage.
In a world where such thoughtful gestures can often feel rare, Rachel’s kindness truly stood out. It meant the world to my grandfather and to all of us as a family.
We are deeply grateful and wish Rachel and The Refreshment Room continued success, prosperity, and happiness. Your kindness will not be forgotten — thank you once again for going...
Read moreI visited today for lunch and myself and my wife both ordered ham and tomato sandwiches, very nice, especially the bread, very fresh and hand cut artisan type, we decided to have ice creams afterwards, really lovely ice cream flavours, but I knocked a star off my review because of the tiny size of it, must be a contender for the worlds smallest ice cream serving, the small ball of ice cream balanced on top of the cone was that small it only covered the middle part of the cone with plenty of wafer on view round the edges, as we ate our ice creams outside( to be honest didn't take very long )we had a good laugh at peoples expressions and gestures of disbelief as they came out of the shop with their joke sized scoops of ice cream. There was a young lad doing the serving so I would like to think he was new and didn't really know what he was doing because if it really is the correct size he was told to serve, it will just leave people thinking they've been ripped off and leave them with a bad experience, which is a shame as apart from this I enjoyed my visit, I would return again for lunch but maybe have an ice cream at the cafe further...
