I usually don’t get the need to leave a bad review but this time I think everyone needs to know our experience. I had off Friday so thought it was best to go on a little date with my partner so decided to try this cafe that’s 5 mins walk from our place. It looked amazing and cute, thought we would have the best time, get in there, the woman working on that day, she decided to put us on a reserved table without telling us it was reserved. We both hadn’t even started eating our cake, some people came in (that had reserved the table we were sitting on which we were unaware of btw) so she panicked as the cafe was full and then had the audacity to come to our table and request us to leave mid way of our meal! as the people who came in had this table reserved! And offer us to sit outside when it’s really windy and cloudy and cold. If we had known that the table was reserved or if we were going to get kicked out or asked to eat outside in the cold, we would have happy walked away from the start and went to another cafe?? I think it was rude to not mention anything to us beforehand as this just ruined the experience! Without taking accountability of her own mistake that she had put us on the reserved table and make us look like we just walked in and sat on a reserved table! Everyone was staring at us as if we were in the wrong, so humiliating and disappointing. I usually have a thick skin but when I tell you I cried the moment I stepped out of the cafe, I am not lying. It was so rude and disrespectful that she even asked us to leave midway our meal and literally felt like we had caused all this mess as she would not take any responsibility that this was all her mistake, my partner hadn’t even touched his cafe and was still having his latte. I will let you guys decide if you think this was fair on us! We felt like we were just accepted in the cafe for our £15 then rushed out without any consideration for our experience. Read moreWe visited The Malt Mill Bakery on 6th September 2025, hoping for the same quality breakfast that once made this spot a local favourite. What we got instead was a masterclass in how not to run a brunch spot.
From the moment we walked in, it was clear things were off. It’s a small place, so you can hear everything — including staff openly admitting that the chef was hungover, several team members were late, and frankly, nobody seemed remotely prepared to be running a food establishment that morning. We even heard at one point they were an hour late opening.
The food reflected exactly that. The breakfast was a total write-off: every item on the plate was severely overcooked, dry, and completely lacking care or flavour. Smokey beans? No straight out the can.
The granola bowl? An actual embarrassment — thrown together with zero attention and presented like a last-minute afterthought. It was so bad my partner drew attention to this as the yoghurt was comparable to the consistency of wall plaster. We suspect following this they just added water and sent it back to us. It was all so bad we genuinely wondered if the place was under new ownership or if the regular chap(middle age man with glasses) had jumped ship.
What once was a reliable gem for a great start to the day now feels like it’s being run by a group of unsupervised teenagers. If this was anyone’s first visit, they’d never come back — and sadly, after this, neither will we.
This place needs a serious wake-up call. Standards have hit...
Read moreAn exceedingly pleasant café with respectable good service, gorgeous food and a cosy environment.
Me and my Family had booked a specials night at the Malt Mill Café and Bakery. The Café was situated down a nice row of businesses and houses with a bold and creative look to its appearance to it exterior.
The interior of the café was cosy and pleasant with a nice choice of lighting, old café utensils, and a lovely smiles on all the staffs face which real does sets a positive view of the place.
The food and drink were gorgeous with the special’s night being Italian themed. All the food was home-made and had a lot of time and thought put into it to make it taste so good. A fine selection of some Italian wines was on offer which me and my dad had one. It went down so well with the tasty appetisers, flavoursome beef, and the gorgeous home-made fresh baked pastry desserts.
The staff were so kind and nice to talk to, they were helpful and guided you briefly though what’s on the menu, The menu for that special’s night were helpful and describe the type of food offer that night. Credits to the chef and serves, Paul, Donna and all glamorous assistants.
Me and my family are certain to come again for your special night and we might also try your café menu as well as it...
