Few places in my opinion get five stars this is one of them. The Cuckoo is always packed on a Sunday so a reservation is a must. To begin we had the Yorkshire Bites filled with beef and beef an ample size boat of gravy, the only problem was we wanted more as they are very moreish and 3 went very quickly. For main we had the Roast Beef duo for two with a side of cauliflower cheese and seasonal vegetables and all the trimmings with two gravy boats and more for free if needed. The beef duo included a slice of medium rare sliced beef which packed rich flavour and a beef brisket which literally fell of the bone. The staff really take their time cooking food, nothing is rushed and its worth the wait. To compliment the meal we enjoyed a bottle of The Nottage Hill Shiraz full of big bold summer fruit flavours with a touch of vanilla. For dessert I had the famous Eton Mess which didn't even touch the sides and my friend had the Coconut Panna Cotta both desserts were perfect. Delicate flavours, not over powering at all and a nice way to end a great meal. Customer Service by all of the staff was exceptional Food as always wad fantastic and just the right amouny not leaving you stuffed

Called in here at 4pm on 26th March. We often stay on campsite at Ferry Meadows and have called in The Cuckoo numerous times. I ordered our food at bar and chose a table at front of pub for my partner and I and are two very well behaved small dogs. Food arrived promptly. There was a middle-aged to elderly man sitting in the bay window near us. He was on his phone, ok until he started listening to, perhaps a u tube video, which was extremely loud, we could hear every word. I thought “how ignorant” and hoped it would not last too long. Unfortunately, the noise continued. We do not expect to have a nice meal, with nice background music, ruined by an ignorant person. I told him I did not like listening to him on his very loud phone. He told me he did not like my two dogs? He was not going to turn the volume on his phone down so we all had to move to the opposite side of the pub😧. The barmaid, who appeared to be in charge, said she “could not get involved in disputes between guests”. We were, actually, customers and, having been in the hospitality trade for most of my working life - owning various premises - I was not impressed with her answer. I would imagine, the ignorant customer was a regular, probably spending the price of one beer! We had actually spent £37.45p and were hoping to enjoy our meal in a nice pub with a nice ambience. The barmaid should have requested the man turn down his phone to a reasonable level.

What a great little gem The Cuckoo is, hidden away just sixty seconds off the Southbound A1, one junction before the motorway starts at Peterborough South and you'd never know it was there, if someone didn't tell you to turn off to Alwalton. We pre booked at table of six for seven o'clock on a Saturday night. It was busy, but the atmosphere was really amenable. The bar area was doing a steady trend all night yet we never waited to be served and again at the table the timing between courses was great. We had one diner with complex allergies and they couldn't of made her life any easier. Our server couldn't have been better and I kick myself now that I can not remember her name. I'm sorry about that, you where from eastern Europe I think and had a very long name that the staff had shortened, your manager has a member of staff to hang on to there. It's a nice place all round. Food was plentiful, tasted good and was hot, five out of six of us were served together the sixth close behind. Menu was varied, classical gastro pub at its best and the prices were good as well. What's not to like. Note all photos below, inside and out, are taken as the restaurant closes for the night.

My experience at this pub is positive and would come bck You do order drinks and food at the bar after grabbing table outside or inside. Our for was brought to us after 15 minutes of wait The food tasted good and what we ordered we would order again, next time I will order fish and chips because the portion was massive and cod fish was fresh. the sit outside was comfortable We did not like the fact that we had to go and fetch forks and knifes to eat a meal especially when wasps flyingaroundand try to get the food that is on the plate basically lady that brought our meals should also bring cutler but this is how they serve food here I need to get up and get it yourself (!?). I do prefer to sit outside and wait for waitres to come and take order and complete the whole procedure while I enjoy my cold beer..... My Guinness wasn't in genuine Guinness glass and tested a bit watery and the taste just wasn't there, perhaps it was from the bottom of the barrel? toilet was clean at 5pm (before we left) food 4/5 drink 3/5 serve 3/5 toilet 5/5 15:4=3.75 so will give 4 stars Thank you.

Beautiful pub, it has been a while since we were last there. The upside is the staff are wonderful, very pleasant, polite and helpful. The building and the atmosphere is great. Parking is easy & plentiful around the back or the building and access into the pub is also available at the back & the front. The downside is the price of the Soda & Lime, which quite frankly were extortionate more like London Prices. I have had large Soda & Lime in other places around Peterborough & not paid nearly as much as there. The other downside was sadly the food, the beef pies, looked stunning & tasted amazing. Sadly, the beef was a poor cut and so fatty & grisly my husband had to abandon most of his. There was clear gristle on the plate, which was such a shame. Once again, fantastic staff, the manager (Linda, I think), couldn't have been more apologetic, and we had complimentary puddings (also very lovely). Hence, only 3☆ for food this time. I hope it is a one-off & they can source better beef or sack the butcher!

Really disappointed. Called in here on my way past. I’m not from the area and was travelling to my hotel. First of all I hate the impersonal nature of ordering via your phone. As a solo traveller part of the reason you go out for a meal is to talk to people. Anyway, I was hungry so thought I’d try the steak. Ordered medium. Came out well done. Ordered salad. Originally came out with chips then the waitress changed for 3 lettuce leaves, 1 slice of cucumber, and yet more tomatoes. Ordered dauphinoise potatoes as a side. Came out burnt to a crisp so no sauce. I wanted to send the meal back as I’d paid £21.50 for the steak and £3.75 for the potatoes but didn’t want to cause a scene. No idea why every part of the meal had to come in a separate dish either…. If a waitress had bothered to come and see how the meal was I would have said something but they didn’t. Honestly, just stop for a drink and eat somewhere else.
