Game Cock Inn — Restaurant in Hyndburn

First visit since the refurbishment, and was disappointed with the poor service we received. We felt the service was bad from start to finish. Staff were unprofessional and rude. We only visited for a cheap breakfast so our expectations weren't exactly high, yet still left disappointed. We selected our breakfast from the buffet, which was drab at best. Cheap sausages, fatty bacon, poorly coked fried egg and dry scrambled egg as an alternative. What's more we had to wait until after eating for a cup of coffee as the filter machine was empty. No sugar available, just empty wrappers in the dish (it wasn't exactly busy) so couldn't quite understand that one. We didn't see the cutlery on the table as they were concealed quite well behind the menus, had there been any other customers we'd have asked them but there weren't any. Went to ask a member of staff and saw a drawer with cutlery inside across from the coffee machine so took some from there. The barman came over shortly after to remind us of the cutlery hidden behind the menus, he did so in a condescending manner. He did say just so we knew for our next visit. We won't be revisiting, so not necessary, take my word for it and go to somewhere else. There a plenty that offer carvery breakfasts for the same value yet offer much higher quality and...

Arrived approx 16-30 Sunday after noon and expected a little bit of a wait, but very suprised as to how quiet it was, quite a few empty tables. Got drinks ordered 3 carveries and a jacket potato beans and cheese, no jackets, disappointing but ok it happens. So went to get the carvaries, queued for over 15 mins, different joints of meat unavailable not ready, surprised as it wasn't busy. Evenually one of us got served with their meat only to find NO veg ie mash potatoes, roast potatoes, carrots or cauliflower cheese and no gravey. When I asked to speak to the manager I heared a voice from the kitchen say " they will just have to wait " really . I eventually spoke the the manager who told me the veg would be another 15mins !!!! Why allow people to get part of their meal in the first place then have to wait 15mins for the other part !!! So poor I requested a full refund which I did get . I have been here many times and have seen a gradual decline in standards and will not be going back. May i suggest some customer service training for some of the staff and some help for the over worked staff member serving the carvery who did at least...

Decor was a lot better than my last visit, due to it changing hands I presume. We arrived at 6.30 on a Thursday evening for a carvery meal. My wife chose the `Meat Free' choice as she is a vegetarian. I had the normal meat one. Gammon, turkey, and beef were the choices. Unfortunately, the turkey was all gone, and very little beef left.... at 6.30pm. So was the swede, so were the roast potatoes, no parsnips either, although they did come out eventually. I opted to wait for the roast potatoes which flummoxed the 'chef', as he thought that I wasn't going to have potatoes and parsnips and just get on with my meal. A good 10 minutes passed and then a small bowl of potatoes arrived which were just about done. My wife was not offered any alternative to the meat in the way of veggie sausages etc., so she just had a load of veg, which she was quite happy with. The main thing was, the food was very good, which made up for any shortcomings from the kitchen. They should really have a look at the supply and demand and act on it. Nice...
