Christmas Day We had our sitting at 2:30 and have to say it was really disappointing. When we arrived we were told that our table, which we had requested when paying previous to the day, had been changed and we were moved to another. A young man behind the bar appeared to be still drunk/under the influence of drugs from the night before? He served my husband and son-in-law and they practically had to tell him what to do as he was very vague. My mum's partner had been at the 12:30 sitting with his family and also mentioned this young man dropping a load of plates. My daughters' nipped out to the car and this lad was wobbling around outside, his shirt was stained with blood and his hand was wrapped in blue plasters. He fell over the advertising board almost knocking my youngest daughter over and then just sat on the floor. When we mentioned his behaviour to our waitress she tried to say there was no-one like that working there so we pointed him out as he was still staggering around outside the window....she wasn't interested and tried to make excuses for him. We received our starters which were ok. Then, we waited for just over an hour before asking the waitress where our mains were, again , she wasn't interested. When they finally arrived they were very inconsistent with each other - my 6 year old grandson who had a child's portion had more turkey than me, my pig in blanket was actually raw. Everything on the plate looked like it was cooked fresh for the first sitting and we had the leftovers. My husband and son-in-law both ordered the 10 oz rib eye steak but both received the venison steak with a mix and match of items from the rib eye steak dish and venison dish. The desserts were bog standard...I had the cheese board with dry cheese and horrible crackers. My mum had eaton mess and was disappointed with the meringue...said she could do a better job herself. It sounds like we are just out to complain but it seriously was very disappointing....would never go again. A complete waste of money which is such a shame as we save throughout the year and really look forward to this. For the meal and drinks we paid £450 and certainly cannot justify this. Also, we were supposed to be served after dinner macaroons which there...
Read moreWe were greeted on our arrival and shown straight to our table and provided with menus by a charming member of staff, all going well. A second member of staff to our drinks order and food order. The same member of staff brought our drinks, still going well. That's were it ends, our starters arrived served by a third member of staff. One starter of 3 did not arrive and had to be re ordered. 2 starters were supposed to be with chutney. the first one came with Mayo and the late one arrived with chutney. A fourth member of staff brought our mains which were fine except for cold plates which meant that the meal was cold before we finished them. When we had finished we were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu but this didn't arrive and we had to ask some 20 mins later for a dessert menu. This was brought by a fifth member of staff and our order taken. The coffees arrived but no desserts arrived. We drank our coffee. After a further 20 mins without the desserts having not arrived we asked for the bill. A final sixth member of staff arrived with our bill and realised that we had not had our desserts so apologised and brought our desserts. As we left we had to go to the bar to pay as there was not a chance of us getting any service at the table. There seemed to be no shortage of staff but no one was leading any of the team and they just seemed to wander about and not follow up or complete any orders. The meal in total took some 2 and a half hours to be served and with my mother being 95 was a long time for her...
Read moreWe had a wonderful family lunch here Sunday 22nd Dec, two adults and two tweens. It's probably been over 20 years since I visited The Foxglove so we thought we would venture somewhere further afield than normal and it didn't disappoint!
It was busy with festive gatherings but not overly crowded and we were greeted by a really friendly server and shown to a lovely table in the dining area.
The atmosphere was really cosy and our server Tom was really helpful, checking dishes for us and even bagging up a doggy bag afterwards for our dog Rupert back home! It was really nice to see that even though it was busy there were plenty of staff available which meant they weren't rushing around or leaving anyone waiting for ages.
The meals themselves were delicious, all came out together and piping hot which was really good! My wife and I had starters of Paté and a mushroom fondue which were really tasty (the paté was particularly good), then for mains the kids had the signature burger, I had their pie of the day- chicken and pancetta, and my wife had the trio of Sunday dinner. There was plenty of food for all of us, well worth the prices and it was all really delicious, not a single complaint from the kids and our only negative was the parsnips on the Sunday lunch could have been a bit smaller(!) Also the beef was a little tough. Overall though just a really pleasant meal out for us all before Christmas shenanigans start. Will definitely be going back again! Can't give any rating for the rooms...
