Me and my mum visited here after coming here once when I was younger. We are visiting the area and thought it would be nice to relive some old memories. As we walked towards the pub we noticed it looked very dark. No lights on and very quiet. We found the entrance and we went inside. The greeting we got wasn’t the best, I’m a waitress myself and it was a terrible greeting. The 2 ladies stood near the restaurant bit and told us we couldn’t go sit in the restaurant as they were trying to save electricity, we can understand that as everyone’s trying to save money. One lady pointed to a table in the corner of the pub and said that was our table. We sat down and ordered drinks. It was prompt and our order was soon taken. I ordered the American pizza and my mum had a Yorkshire with veg. The meal came and was hot and was lovely, until my mum found a hair on her cauliflower. She called over the waitress and explained there was a hair on her food. The waitress lifted the plate up and started inspecting it at our table. “You sure that’s a hair?” After sometime she then said you sure it isn’t a fibre of something. Which is completely rude. She took the meal away and the other lady came back and asked my mum to explain what the hair looked like. It was black and curly and was definitely a hair no need to explain. Then after giving my mum 20 questions she eventually apologised and offered my mum another meal. I think it’s completely rude and off putting to inspect a dinner at the table and then rudely make out my mum was lying. They both stood at the bar having a natter while looking over at us to make it clear they were talking about us. Pizza however was actually okay. Will never return and you should avoid this place. Staff were rude and the place is not welcoming. It’s very hard as well as there’s no shops about to get anything to eat...
Read moreEvery so often, I come across a place that reminds me why pubs and restaurants remain the beating heart of a community. The Golcar Lily is exactly that kind of place. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth that felt genuine, not rehearsed. Staff smiled, tables buzzed with conversation, and the atmosphere struck that rare balance between cosy local charm and welcoming hospitality.
The food deserves special mention. Plates arrived not only well-presented but full of flavour — traditional comfort dishes done with care and attention. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and each dish I tried carried that unmistakable homemade touch. Several diners I spoke to echoed the same sentiment: “It’s the kind of food you come back for, not just once, but again and again.”
What impressed me most, however, was the sense of pride that radiated from the staff. Every person I encountered seemed invested in making the experience memorable. Nothing felt rushed, nothing felt forced, and small details — from the quick refills to the cheerful banter at the bar — elevated the entire evening.
That being said, The Golcar Lily isn’t without its quirks. The décor leans slightly outdated, with a few corners that look like they’ve seen better days. But far from spoiling the experience, this gave the place a kind of nostalgic charm — a reminder that not every venue needs slick, modern gloss to deliver genuine comfort and character.
In my investigation, I spoke with other customers, and the verdict was unanimous: people come here not just for a meal, but for the feeling. The Golcar Lily may not pretend to be cutting-edge, but it delivers what truly matters — hearty food, genuine service, and a warm sense of belonging.
As The Rating Ranger, I can say with certainty: this is a place that leaves you not only full,...
Read moreFriday Night 19:15 I think our order was taken by the cook as front of house staff were void. The cook made a decent prawn cocktail for both of us £8:95 each. The main meal: Yorkshire pudding with sausage and onion was described as the worst sausage ever eaten "the cheapest of the cheap". My order was the Toulouse like sausage I would like to note if you burn a tomato sauce start again don't serve it even if you think you missed the sides with your scraper, dark acrid flakes. We stayed till nine pm and the place was empty. This could be so good with the views I suggest keep it simple. Avoid is nasty but for food it was not good and the beer garden was unloved perhaps yet another failing pub(we were the only ones there Friday night 9pm). Apologies to the...
