Where do I start, well basically my mum was coming over for lunch and we decided we should go out for Sunday Lunch. This pub is on our route to and from work and we look at it thinking, next week we will go, well today was the day. We booked for 2pm and arrived to a busy pub, it was lovely to see, the lady behind the bar welcomed us and sat us at the front, all was comfy if a little tired. The menus were handed out and the lady serving us was friendly and helpful. The menu had a huge choice but the 3 adults wanted a roast dinner, 2 x beef and 1 x mixed meat, my daughter ordered tapas of calamari and meatballs with sweet potato fries. The children ordered from the childrens menu plumping for nachos with cheese followed by Chicken strips and a mac and cheese, now their meals were good, tasty and warm. The childrens starters were served and eaten, the plates cleared and then another family walked in, they placed their orders and we continued to wait, their meals were served but ours were not. We continued to wait for a further 15 mins before I chased up the meals, I was advised they were on their way. Well the 3 roast dinners arrived, we were advised the plates were hot, but that is all was hot, the 3 tiddly roast potatoes were burnt, the yorkshire pud was black and burnt, the spoonful of mash was lumpy, the beef was cold and the gravy was like water. The mixed roast has dry chicken too. I instantly complained and they took the meals away stating they would be replaced, my mum chose to keep her mixed roast asking for more chicken and a new yorkie. A further 20 mins passed at which time the lady behind the bar offered us 2 free drinks, no new yorkie for my mum and then was told it would be a further 25 mins for new chicken, this was refused and a slight adjustment was offered on the bill. Our meals arrived, this time the yorkie and 3 tiny potatoes were hot but the beef was cold and so tough, we had to request a new yorkie for my mum again which arrived a further 5 mins later, but guess what, no new veg. I again asked for this and it was surved a further 5 mins later. Absolutely terrible. They never came back and asked how the replacement was, they never asked if we wanted a desert (Which we would have refused!) and no further apology offered. My daughters calamari was like rubber and the sweet potato fries were cold. This was out first and last meal in this pub. We are livid to be honest, I am not a general moaner, read my other reviews but hate poor food...
Read moreHad a lovely meal at the New Pack Horse this weekend - the new menu and new chef certainly didn't disappoint. I had the feta to start with and that was spectacular - really tasty and unusual. The Sunday Roast was lovely - the beef was cooked to perfection and the vegetables were spot on. There's always a friendly welcome and an excellent selection of gins here! Looking forward to trying more of the new menu.
Edit - I visited again last night and the food from the normal menu was even better than the fabulous Sunday roast. Three of us shared the sharing platter which is amazing, highly recommend this, the trio of bites are beautiful, there isn't a bad thing on the plate, it's all so tasty and different. We then all had glazed half roast chicken which was literally the nicest chicken I have ever had - it was cooked to perfection and just fell from the bone. The chips were lovely too. We also wanted to try the root vegetable bhajis and ordered these as a side - they were out of this world! It's honestly been a long time since I have enjoyed a meal so much -...
Read moreThey have tried hard to make it into a gastronomic pub and are nearly there - bar a few niggles. The food we were served was very obviously frozen then reheated. But not reheated properly. The deep fried brie was still frozen in the middle and the chicken was raw. Nobody wants raw chicken........ isn't it dangerous? It was quickly taken away and an alternative served with no fuss The main course was very nice apart from maybe the vegetables; they had been standing a while and had dried out a little. The puddings were delicious and absolutely no complaints there. The beer and drinks were very reasonably priced ie: fresh orange juice - 50p. A great pub to take the family for lunch to. It won't break the bank and there is a play area for the kids. My rating 4/5. Would I go...
