Have eaten here a few times now and it is consistently good. Today I went with a friend. It was busy as it was bank holiday and it was clear that the staff were rushed off their feet. That meant a little bit of extra waiting to be seated then to be served by the one waitress they seemed to have on. She wasn't all that confident but very pleasant and didn't mess anything up. I had. Halloumi sticks starter. Very nice with the panko breadcrumbs and sweet chilli sauce but because they were so generous with the size of cheese it wasn't hot all the way through. Not a huge problem as they were still very tasty and you get three large ones. For main I had the lasagne with garlic bread and ordered extra chips. Lasagne was very nice. It had an interesting Herby crumb on the top which was nice but wasn't overly cheesy. Fine for me but some might prefer more. The chips were lovely. Crispy and fluffy and hot. Just what you want. The garlic bread however wasn't the best. It tasted fine but there was very little garlic on it. You got three big slices though. With lots more garlic they would've been great. Pudding. Chocolate delice. It was so rich and lovely. The small bit you get was just enough and so tasty. My friend had the harissa hummus starter which I tasted and was very very nice. Garlicky with a little kick. Mixed grill main which he said the steak was cooked perfectly. The gammon could have done with more grilling as it was only just cooked but tasty. He said the chicken wings were not nice. Not sure if it was the chicken or their sauce. And he got the cookie dough pudding which he said was so good. Best part of his meal and you got plenty. They did mess up our dessert order which didn't seem to go through but then they fixed it and it came. We didn't mind the waiting but some might. The one star lost was purely with the extra wait and the garlic bread really. Would highly recommend. Unfortunately they seem to have stopped doing the lovely chicken gravy they used to do. Which is a shame because it was incredible. Keep up the...
Read moreWe came on the last night of our holiday, and thought we would try somewhere different. Obviously not being local We didn't know where we were supposed to go after booking over the phone. We stood near the bar, where litrally everyone walked passed us, ignored us and didn't acknowledge our existence, it was not even bust at this time. Me and my partner were doing the obvious where do we go to eachother, to hopefully prompt some service. We were about to leave and finally someone had us seated. It was quite humiliating being stood in the middle of the pub, it felt like we were invisible for a while. The main man behind the bar, was very abrupt and was chewing gum whilst tending to tables and talking to customers. 2 even got up and left. We waited around half an hr for starter plates to be moved. Our drinks were wrong. The staff treated empty plates with blinkers like if I don't look, there not there kind of attitude. There was no smiles, most staff looked miserable. We where asked if we wanted to see a desert menu, this was again a wait for a menu. I had the hunters chicken for my main, it was quite dry and had heat to it, it's my impression that hunters chicken has a bbq sauce smothering the chicken. So unfortunatly didn't enjoy, I'm not a fan of spicy food and nor did it specify it was. The dessert was nice, and the decor and pub itself is very nice. But somethings could...
Read moreBooked for lunchtime for the following day for 3 plus a baby so I advised on the phone I needed a high chair. When we got there we were shown to a table that was too close to another family with a dog so I asked politely could we have a different table as my son doesn’t do well with dogs. Also there was no highchair there. They put us on a different table in the downstairs area which was better as it was quiet but I still had to ask for a high chair. The food was nice but when the waitress came to clear our plates she didn’t ask if we wanted any desserts/coffees and nobody came back later to ask so we went to the bar to ask for the dessert menus and could the children have some ice creams. Nobody came back with any menus so we had to ask again about 10 mins later so in the end the children got their ice cream but we couldn’t be bothered waiting for menus to choose a dessert so that was a bit of a let down. It’s been about 2 and a half years since we’ve visited and have been about 5 times in total and before everything’s been excellent but this recent visit was a bit of a let down. It wouldn’t put me of visiting again though as it may have...
