The cuisine here is truly outstanding. If you are looking for REAL, authentic and most of all traditional Jamaican food, you won’t find anywhere better in Sussex! We have eaten here 6-8 times and have tried various dishes, including curry goat, the reggae roast chicken, plus many of the side dishes, such as plantain and coleslaw. Everything is cooked to perfection and is every bit what you would expect from a Jamaican chef who knows what he is doing.

The service is lovely from this family run place, where you are always greeted with a warm smile. The chef comes out to great diners which is a nice touch. The drinks selection is excellent too.

If Caribbean isn’t your thing, you are well looked after here (although why would you not want to sample it?)! You have your usual traditional pup food on the menu too. All looks good, but I’ll be honest, it’s curry goat or jerk chicken with rice and peas all the way for me!

We were here last week and we’re...

We had a room booked on Saturday night for the Brighton Marathon on the Sunday. We arrived at 10 pm for a late check in. We have a well behaved cocker spaniel. We were not greeted with smiles at all …. We were told that dogs were not allowed…. We had rung a few weeks before to check on dogs but the staff said we had phoned the wrong pub and that they did not allow dogs in their rooms. There was no sympathy or offer to help at all. The woman behind the bar did not even give us eye contact. She simply kept her eyes on her screen/till. We were told it would cost too much to clean the room after we would have left. There were no suggestions or apologies, just a cold reception…. If you have a dog, this is not the establishment for you. We simply had to leave and find alternative accommodation very last minute on a...

I've probably been spoilt by some larger chains and some really outstanding hotels...

The landlord and staff were lovely; perfectly hospitable. The room was okay - road noise in the Cissbury room is quite noticeable despite the double glazing. I felt there was an underlying fried food smell in the room. Telly is a little on the small side but it's there all the same. Bed is super comfy; actually slept pretty well (two pints later... I know... lightweight!!)

The food was great - unfortunately I couldn't tuck into the Jamaican menu due to a stomach that whinces at the site of a chilli seed... I'm told it's really good -...

Have passed by here for years and not found time to stop. Made time today and had an amazing birthday meal. Curry goat was amazing, my wife's pork chop was enormous, tender and beautifully cooked. My son's steak gorgeous and apparently the cheeseburger was the best my daughter has ever had. Fantastic staff too, so friendly and happy to answer any queries. Great local beers too. Great to see a small local place so busy

Disappointing visit. Was served a flat coke, but given replacement in bottle after requesting another. Dessert was frozen in middle, second one was heated more thoroughly in the microwave. No reduction in bill for these 2 mistakes. No plantain or vanilla ice cream left. Roast chicken was a generous portion but far too much gravy. Unfortunately we won't be returning, not even for the BBQs coming up.

Great little spot I had been meaning to stop in for some time and finally did today. The food was impeccable, mainly Jamaican dishes with other typical pub grub, I had sirloin which was cooked to a perfect medium, my son had fish and chips (the fish was super light and fluffy) my friend had the goat curry. Suffice to say we were all very happy. Highly recommend this quirky little spot.
