We’ve been to The Flying Fish in Denton several times in the past and always enjoyed it, but unfortunately, this last visit was a bit disappointing. We ordered lentil soup, two mushroom soups, seasoned vegetables, and a fish pie. After waiting for 50 minutes, we had to ask where our food was, and while it arrived shortly after, one of the mushroom soups was missing. It took another 15 minutes for the missing soup to come out, which meant we had waited over an hour in total, it seems like perhaps they went to the local supermarket to do a shop when they got our order.
The long wait really put us off, especially as we’ve had better experiences here before. To add to it, when we requested containers to take some of the food away, the containers were dripping wet, and the napkins we used to wipe them down came away dirty.
We understand that things can sometimes go wrong, but this experience has left us hesitant to return, which is a shame given how much we’ve liked it...

It took over 1.5 hours for the mains to come out and that was after us asking where they were 4 times and the last time we said that we'll be leaving in 10 if they don't come out. There was only 2 other couples in the pub and they both ordered after us but got 2 courses before us! Our 2 year old loved waiting around!!! The pub was lovely inside, the food was decent. They only had one person working for the whole pub I think. They then had the cheek to give me a bill and didn't take the deposit off! I called the manager to explain so they had a chance to discuss it but he was not very interested and after explaining all the above he said "I'm not good at this you are best to speak to my wife, she isn't here" I left my name and number but now 5 days later I've not had any contact....
Read moreWe arrived on a Sunday, in Newhaven, 4hrs before our ferry was due to leave for Dieppe. All the restaurants we looked at, had finished serving food and then we happened upon The Flying Fish and what a find it was! From stepping in the door, we were made to feel so welcome, (which is very unusual in a rural pub!) from Will, the Bar Manager and regulars, Nicki, Steve & Phil. Even though it was late, the Chef managed to rustle up two fabulous Sunday Dinners for us. There was so much, we couldn't eat it all and the kitchen very kindly put what was leftover, in foil, to take away with us. So we enjoyed another Sunday dinner the next day, when we arrived back in France! Great hospitality, we will definitely be back next time we are in Newhaven! Wishing Will and the Flying Fish team, every success in their new venture, just carry on what...
