Where do I start?. we visited The Nags Head last night (17th July) at 7.45pm for a pre-booked meal for my Husbands Birthday, there were 5 of us in our party. We arrived on time and were greeted at the door, when we gave our booking the guy looked quite worried, he then found the booking and looked even more worried. The bar was piled up with used glasses so I guessed they must have had some staffing issues. If only I had known what was to come. We were seated at a table in a small enclosed dining area dining area with no atmosphere and the only other people were saw were the ones passing to go to the toilet. we were informed that there were some staffing problems and that a chef had had to go home poorly. Waiter asked if we could bear with them as there may be a slightly longer wait for food. we accepted that and waited for someone to take our drinks order, and waited and waited eventually someone came but then we waited quite a while for drinks to arrive. Took at least half an hour for someone to take our food order, we didn't order starters,(thank goodness) as we thought that might delay things further. At half past 9 we still had not received our meals and nobody had come to advise us why or to apologise. We talked about leaving but the waiter then arrived and said that another member of staff had gone home as they couldn't stand it anymore, he said there were 4 more meals to be prepared before ours, we said this wasn't acceptable as we had waited so long. They went away and spoke to the manager who said they were plating up the 2 steaks we had ordered and we should get them quite soon. Then as if things couldn't get any worse the waiter came and said don't know how to tell you this and I am so sorry but we don't have the three pies you ordered for your other main's, this is TWO HOURS after we have ordered. We had been very understanding and polite till this point but enough is enough so we said we would have to leave. we were offered some drinks but we declined. by this time there was nowhere else to get food so we came home to cheese on toast!!!!. I understand the staffing issues but cannot forgive the excuses, the lack of communication and the lies and a copy of this Email will be forwarded to your...
Read morePLEASE READ. After being out with the dogs with my partner, fancied a quick drink where we could take the little fellas. Ordered two pints of beer and a portion of cheesy chips. No problem I thought. Especially after complaining last time we came in January, and being forgotten about when we had organised a meal for two, took a age for them to take our orders for each course. Anyway I digress. Cheesy chips came...... very small bowl. Waitress asked if any condiments were required, yes we responded, Mayo, salt & vinegar. 10 minutes passed nothing had appeared, no cutlery or napkins, just a plate of chips and nothing else. We had chosen to eat the chips before they went cold. Upon seeing the waitress I asked her where everything was, she apologised and said she would get the manager, after 5 minutes the manager appeared waved at us and carried on with her duties. (She knew it was us from previous) so a few more minutes passed and still no sign, so we went to the bar and asked again, this time a little more sharply. Manager arrives and says that she deserves a break and that she was coming over later. She then went on to say that she didn’t recognise us and that our behaviour was unacceptable and asked us to leave. This is all because they are unable to look after the customer, the one that works hard to spend some money in their establishment, and expects to have a little bit of good old fashion customer service. Not too much to ask surely. Apparently so and when you complain you are then asked to leave. Manager is a absolute waste of time, if you want your business to fail then employ this person. Dreadful, we will be putting this into a formal complaint to...
Read moreSituated on the very edge of the small town of Burntwood, a spring time visit to The Nags Head (Part of the Chef &Brewer Collection) with its green foliage picturesque surroundings was a welcoming experience. Has plentiful parking which emphasised that it was more than suitable to cater for larger events. Being a Bank Holiday Sunday we decided to book in advance. Walking through the door into its cosy and comfortable surroundings, we were greeted with a smile by Ray, who showed us the way to our table. Ray pointed out that Chef’s Specials Board as well as handing us the traditional menu, which also consisted of a variety of vegetarian options. The drinks and wine list was extensive but we played it safe with a couple of refreshing mocktails. We were looked after by Isobel who was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Being lunch time I would say it was quite busy and mainly, if not all, adult clientele. We opted for a couple of starter dishes, a crispy squid with roasted garlic mayonnaise and charred lemon and the other being creamy garlic mushrooms which were grilled and on a toasted sourdough bread covered with the creamy sauce. The main dishes were a grilled Seabass with garden vegetables and a Chef’s Choice grill roasted lamb rump. Every dish was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely divine. Finished off with delicious desserts with locally sourced ice cream and a coffee. In a nutshell it is a faultless wonderful pub, with its cosy atmosphere along with great service and mouthwatering food, which the chefs no doubt take great pride in taste and presentation, all at an extremely reasonable price. Highly...
