Absolutely appalling service and food this morning 29/5/22 we arrived at the Tame Otter on time for our booked breakfast meal for my Birthday at 10:30am, when we arrived they said they were expecting us at 10:00am and thought that we weren’t coming although they hadn’t rang anyone if this was the case to still find out if we were coming? We were seated and our drinks orders were taken, are drinks arrived promptly but this is where the promptness of service sadly stopped our food orders were taken but after 40 minutes no food had arrived at our table we went and asked where our food orders had got to as we had been waiting for 40 minutes and the food hadn’t arrived my mother in law was told they would go and find out but nobody returned to us and no update was given another 10 minutes passed still nobody came to us to apologise or say the food would be arriving shortly. The food then finally arrived most of which was cold, barley warm or undercooked or overcooked (scrambled eggs watery and lacking in flavour/seasoning, poached egg with watery undercooked whites, fried eggs undercooked and watery whites). We complained about the standard of food and how long we had been waiting an apology was given and we were told that we would not be charged for the food however we still paid £25 for drinks which he had at the start most of the food was left and only a few items were edible.
No explanation to why the food was so bad and to why we had to wait so long other than it was all cooked from fresh, we even asked if they had a new chef but this wasn’t the case, so the chef is obviously happy to send out food cold and undercooked or overcooked.
There was only us in there so it wasn’t as though it was even busy.
Disappointing and embarrassing as we had invited the whole family never coming again.
So not a great start to my...
Read moreI love this place and have been many times with my husband and always had an enjoyable evening. However, every time I visit with my family, the service and food are sadly lacking. On Saturday I booked a table for six at 6.30pm. The outside area was very busy as it was a lovely day but inside was fairly quiet. After a little while, our waitress took our drinks and food orders and we waited … and waited. The drinks and then starters arrived, which were good, but then we waited for well over an hour for our mains , not receiving them until 8.40pm - more than two hours after our arrival. Finally we received a pizza which had obviously been sitting under heat lamps for a while, a chicken burger which was dry and lacking in accompaniments, a tasty steak pie in which the steak was tough and the carrot on the plate was raw, sea bass which was delicious but again the broccoli was raw, and the only plate that was decent was my grandson’s pasta.
The manager came over and was very apologetic, gave us a hefty discount, offered us free dessert which we declined, and said that the kitchen was an hour behind due to the number of guests that day. At no time had we been told of this either on arrival or when ordering, which was disappointing. This was to be our last meal in Tamworth and our last visit to the Tame Otter before moving away from the area on Wednesday and we left feeling dissatisfied and let down. Such a shame that they don’t seem able to cope with tables of more than two, or have enough staff to serve customers when the weather is nice over a bank...
Read moreThis was our go to when visiting family in the area. On our last visit things weren't that great, we marked that down as a blip. This evening though it was absolutely dire. Our table was booked well in advance for 6pm on the Saturday evening. On arrival it was as if they were squeezing us in. We were shown our table, with no mention of long wait times, or missing menu items. As they weren't offering table service, we ordered through the app. Drinks arrived after about 10 minutes. Another 10 minutes and a waitress came over to ask if we were aware that the food wait time was 40 minutes minimum. As we'd ordered bites whilst we wait, then starters, then mains, we assumed that wouldn't be too bad. We'd already waited 20 minutes. In the end some pretty dreadful starters came out alongside the bites just over 40 minutes after ordering. By this point, we're hungry, so we eat. The scallop coquille was dry, one small scallop and one rubbery prawn. We then wait a further 30 minutes for some pretty dire mains. Missing ingredients, soggy salad, practically raw ciabbata. No one asked how our food was, and we were given no chance to complain, no one seemed to care. And then to add insult to injury, they seemed keen to clear our table, trying to remove plates we were still eating, as if they needed us out for the next seating. So disappointing, this was such a great pub. If you cant get it right early on a Saturday night , when can you. We absolutely...
