Fox Inn — Restaurant in Tamworth

Decidedly mixed feelings after two visits.

Our first was on Tuesday 14/06/2022 where, upon arrival on spec, we were given a well-located table for two in the Restaurant and enjoyed good quality lunchtime meals and excellent service throughout.

A walk around the pleasant garden area suggested this venue to be an ideal and accessible place to which to bring our clients for lunch as a locally based business.

Our second visit on Saturday 02/07/2022 suggested completely the opposite.

Again arriving on spec, we were happy enough to accept a Bar location with a window seat (familiar to us as our normal port of call pre-lockdown). Studying the menu, we were undecided so I suggested we have a drink whilst we selected our meal.

Approaching the bar, I asked if it was possible to 'set up a tab' so that we could have a drink whilst deciding upon our meal choice. I received the response:

'Sorry, we cant do that...'

Really???

That was the deal-breaker: we upped and left for what proved to be a delightful experience at the nearby Wigginton, where we were not only welcomed with warmth: we enjoyed a drink whilst deliberating over an extensive menu offering which, once selected, arrived quickly and was of excellent quality. Needless to say, I will not be recommending the Fox Inn as a business venue going forward.

A word to the wise: Despite your 'Doggie Friendly' approach, it is not a great idea to leave empty bowls under tables, Neither is it a great idea to alienate customers upon whose recommendations your business stands or falls. For all you know, we could have been Food Safety Agency Inspectors.

I’ve eaten here a few times before today. Each time I’ve had a great experience, food and staff. However today, on the Easter Sunday 2018, I can honestly say that The Fox Inn has disappointed. My go meal had been the Wagyu burger which was every bit as delicious as the last time I had had it here. But for the past 3 visits, they’ve been “unavailable” and are according to staff “being taken off the menu”. THEN TAKE IT OFF THE MENU!!! And you can at least tell your staff to let customers know what’s off the menu before we choose it! Due to this, i’ve Recently been forced to choose the Mature Cheddar and Bacon Burger (another previous favourite though!). I’m a big fan of the 100% fresh beef... well any meat really. They’ve not only removed an amazing meal from the menu, they’ve replaced the beef with 100% defrosted Iceland (or worse) burgers. You can tell by how sharp the edge of patty was. A frozen burger patty I could buy 4 of for myself for £1 or less. Normally they would charged for £11.99 for my favoured Wagyu Burger meal. So my advice to anyone reading this... DONT ORDER THE BURGER! It’s just not worth being disappointed over. To add to my frustrations on this visit with my partner’s family. The Staff got our drinks order wrong, 3 times. We felt too sorry for the new lad taking our order so we ended up leaving it. When I asked for the Wagyu, I was told to go for the “ultimate burger”. One star is too many. The worst meal out I've ever had. We had a table booked for a group of 10 for a family birthday meal. Table booked for 6pm and the place was dead when we arrived at 5.30pm. The waitress was so confused by our very straight forward food order that she came back to check it four times and we should have known then that this would not be a good experience. The three starters ordered arrived quickly and were very nice though. An hour after finishing the starters however our mains still hadn't come and we were growing quite annoyed. Nobody at this point had said there was a delay or given us any kind of reassurance our food was on the way. On asking where it was we were told it would be five minutes. 15 minutes later still nothing so we asked again. Another 10 minutes later some of our mains arrived and several of them were inedible and every meal was disappointing to say the least. The final two meals eventually arrived another 10 minutes later. The steaks were cold. The chicken was like rubber. The staff were all useless with no customer service at all and the manager was rude and totally uninterested. We were fobbed off several times that they were very busy due to another large party.
