Unfortunately it wasn't a good experience in this pub today A group of 7 came for food and drinks, with the intention of staying for a while to chill out.
We ordered food, and this was not up to scratch. 2/7 of the orders were wrong. The changes we requested to standard menu items was forgotten (trading normal chips to sweet potato fries) For the garlic bread sides, two lots were ordered and they had little/no garlic butter on them. One person ordered cheesy nachos, which has negligible amounts of cheese on them. The "cheesy" chips had the same unfortunate situation, with the lack of cheese being concerning. 2 of our groups ordered a "homemade" Thai green curry. This was clearly prepped earlier and microwaved when the food was ordered. Microwaved food isn't acceptable when advertised as homemade Finally, the risotto. This was a confusing situation, as I don't know why the side salad would be mixed inside the rice itself. This is just odd, and ruining the heart of the food.
Apart from the food, the atmosphere was also disappointing. There were a few situations that come to mind. There was an argument between staff members in the middle of the restaurant area. They did eventually take it outside, but this was after people had taken notice. It is always nice that a a local accepts pets, but when other customers are letting their pets roam around by themselves, the staff should really step in. There was a loose dog walking around, that was walking up to other customers whilst eating. The dog almost went into the kitchen, and I had to get up from eating my meal to find out the owner of the dog. That is not something I should be doing. There was awful amounts of smoke leaving the kitchen. I don't know if this was because of burnt food, but this was distracting from the meal. The unenthusiastic staff also did not help the situation, with bland conversations and expressions. Seems we are not too important to them...
The only saving grace for this pub is that it has a nice atmosphere, and is kept clean. The place is tidy, and the tables were properly laid for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been going to this pub for food/drinks for many years as it's so close to where we work. Cannot believe this is the same pub! I attended last night with 11 colleagues to celebrate my birthday. The 2 waitresses we had were both inexperienced (forgivable), inpatient and rude (not forgivable). It took nearly 1.5 hours to get our food which finally arrived without an explanation for the delay or an apology. Then when we requested the dessert menu we were abruptly told that the kitchen was closed. Their 'Super visor' was unprofessional, disinterested and not equipped to deal with the situation and offered no resolution when told....had food arrived in a timely manner then my guests could have enjoyed a dessert.
The final insult came when we asked for the bill and were told that it had already been paid. The pub could not say by who and when??
After looking through our banking apps, I realised that I had been charged the whole bill of £180 earlier in the evening just after we put in our orders for food...when I thought I was just paying for a round of drinks. I was not informed of this prior or asked if I would like to pay the bill for the whole table. How bizarre!!! Then when we requested a copy of the bill the Supervisor (while rolling her eyes) said she did not have it and could not supply it.....which must be illegal???
Due to the late hour we departed realising that no solution would be had.
We will sadly never go back to the Blackhorse and instead take our custom (and we are many nurses/midwives/doctors) to the Arkley or The Gate where we can always be assured a warm welcome and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFollowing a phone call with the manager, Nicky , I feel I was given a swift and genuine response. They assured me that this isnāt the standard they set for their vegetarian options and gave me a full refund. Not editing my review below for transparency but wanted to include this at the top. I hope future customers see the benefit of the changes that Black Horse seems to be in the process of making. Have given an extra stars 2 purely for the positive response of management.
The disappointment I felt in the food here yesterday was more than I have had in a very long time. I didnāt kick up a fuss yesterday as I was with friends celebrating a happy occasion and thought maybe my expectations were too high, but on looking back at the menu I realise that the establishmentās expectations of their own food is what is too high.
I had the chickpea and spinach burger with chips and halloumi chips on the side. The burger was just the bun, a from frozen thin veggie patty from Iceland, lettuce, onion and tomato. No sauce, no guacamole, no yoghurt and simply NOT what is advertised here. Looking back Iām actually confused by the audacity of this menu description. I donāt even think I tasted a single chickpea? The chips were good The halloumi āchipsā were once again from frozen breaded cheese sticks they also most likely picked up from Iceland.
Shocking and I truly regret not asking for a refund as someone who isnāt in the best financial spot and just wanted to use my money to enjoy a meal with friends.
DO NOT dine here if you...
